On the coupling of hyperbolic and parabolic systems: Analytical and numerical approach [PDF]

open access: yes
The coupling of hyperbolic and parabolic systems is discussed in a domain Omega divided into two distinct subdomains omega(+) and omega(-). The main concern is to find the proper interface conditions to be fulfilled at the surface separating the two ...

Shape of ammonium chloride dendrite tips at small supersaturation

open access: yes, 2004
We report detailed shape measurements of the tips of three-dimensional ammonium chloride dendrites grown from supersaturated aqueous solution. For growth at small supersaturation, we compare two different models: parabolic with a fourth-order correction,

Stabilized Finite Elements for Incompressible, Stationary Navier–Stokes Flows on Manifolds

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT A surface finite element method with residual‐based stabilization for stationary Navier–Stokes flows on curved manifolds is introduced. The mixed formulation in stress‐divergence form leads to a system of equations that has a saddle‐point structure.

Terrestrial Analogs to Titan for Geophysical Research

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Saturn's moon Titan exhibits remarkable parallels to the Earth in many geophysical and geological processes not found elsewhere in the solar system at the present day. These include a nitrogen atmosphere with a condensible gas—methane—replacing the Earth's water, leading to an active meteorology with rainfall and surface manifestations ...

Links between trauma and psychotic symptoms: Integrating cognitive behavioural and neuropsychoanalytic models of psychosis

open access: yesPsychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, Volume 99, Issue 2, Page 301-323, June 2026.
Abstract Purpose Cognitive‐behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) achieves small to modest effect sizes, which invites the question, ‘What clinical modifications might improve outcomes?’ This paper proposes an integration of CBTp with a neuropsychoanalytic approach that in clinical practice might extend the gains achieved by CBTp alone.

An Improved Robin-Robin Coupling Method for Parabolic-Parabolic Interface Problems

open access: yes
We consider a loosely coupled, non-iterative Robin-Robin coupling method proposed and analyzed in [Numer. Algorithms, 99:921-948, 2025] for a parabolic-parabolic interface problem. We modify the first step of the scheme so that several error difference quantities remain higher order convergence without requiring additional assumptions.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 39, 14 May 2026.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

A Thermodynamic Contact Problem for Elastic-Viscoplastic Materials

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2011
Mathematical modeling of stress generation and heat transfer in casting processes is a difficult and complex subject that is now receiving increased attention.

A Comprehensive Review of Waste‐Derived Materials for Solar Still Performance Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 9, 5 May 2026.
Solar desalination reduces energy use and produces freshwater sustainably, but its productivity is limited and cannot meet rising demand. Thus, solar desalination system improvements are sought to boost water productivity. Waste materials are abundantly available and burden the environment, making them low‐cost enhancers for solar desalination systems.
