Ray Tracing Method in a General Non‐Dipole Magnetic Field

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract We present a new general mathematical formulation of the Eikonal equations for ray tracing, which can use any internal magnetic field model. The analytical and tractable expressions are conveniently based on a vector formalism, which is independent of any coordinate system.

Evaluating potential restoration strategies for vascular epiphytes with niche‐based community mechanistic models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
Generally, delayed restoration of adult‐only epiphyte populations into older restored forests improves conservation outcomes. However, restoration can be optimised, initially introducing large populations of fast‐growing, light‐when‐mature species in younger forests followed by the later introduction of slow‐growing, heavy‐when‐mature species in ...

Estimating Baseline Flow Resistance Parameters for Remote Sensing River Discharge (RSQ) From River Morphology Characteristics

open access: yesJAWRA Journal of the American Water Resources Association, Volume 62, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study demonstrates that flow resistance in rivers, quantified via calibration of a modified Manning's equation, can inform its estimation from channel hydrometric information available from regional or global datasets for a limited set (N = 14) of rigorously calibrated river reaches in Alaska and with less certainty in a large set (N ...

Direct Steam Generation in Parabolic Trough Collectors

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
Existing commercial parabolic trough power plants use thermal oil as a heat transfer fluid, with working temperatures in the region of 400ºC. In order to achieve more efficient generating systems, a second generation of parabolic troughs that operate at temperatures higher than 400ºC is being developed.

Mapping CO2 Migration Pathways: Interactions With Geological Structures

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Unintended CO2 releases from carbon capture and storage sites could impact water resources or reverse climate mitigation efforts through atmospheric emissions. Comprehensive understanding of how CO2 migrates in the shallow subsurface is required for appropriate monitoring of any CO2 release.

Hybridization of Parabolic Trough Power Plants with Natural Gas

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
AbstractHybridization may be an intermediate step on the way to the 100% renewable energy era. In respect of the specific CO2 emissions natural gas has to be preferred compared to hard coal or lignite. Most fossil fuel fired power plants as well as concentrated solar thermal power plants use the water/steam cycle for power generation.

Synergistic Enhancement of Solar Thermal Energy Storage Using Al2O3 Nano‐PCM and TiO2 Nanocoated Absorber Surfaces

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
Al2O3‐reinforced phase change material and TiO2 nanocoated absorbers enhanced solar heat absorption, thermal storage, and photothermal conversion efficiency. Optimized 1.5 wt.% Al2O3 improved thermal conductivity and energy retention, achieving 90.7°C outlet temperature and 79.5% thermal efficiency for advanced solar thermal energy storage applications.
