Exergetic Optimization of a Parabolic Trough Solar Collector

2018
In this chapter, detailed thermal and optical models for PTSCs were formed. The purpose of the model is to determine the collector losses in PTSCs and thus to obtain the collector efficiency. A parametric study was conducted to assess the effect of some key design and operating parameters on the performance of the PTSC.

Similarity analysis of parabolic-trough solar collectors

Applied Energy, 2017
Abstract A new method of analyzing the thermal performance of parabolic trough collectors (PTCs) for solar thermal applications is established using similarity principle and dimensional analysis, through which different types of PTCs can be studied via a single scaled physical model.

The SkyTrough™ Parabolic Trough Solar Collector

ASME 2009 3rd International Conference on Energy Sustainability, Volume 2, 2009
The SkyTrough™ is a new high-efficiency parabolic trough solar collector that has been designed with features to reduce capital cost, shorten installation time, and reduce O&M cost. This collector builds on the excellent success of prior generation utility-scale parabolic trough designs, but incorporates several engineering and material innovations,

A cylindrical insert for parabolic trough solar collector

International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat & Fluid Flow, 2018
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate a cylindrical flow insert for a parabolic trough solar collector. Centrally placed and eccentric placed inserts are investigated in a systematic way to determine which configuration leads to the maximum thermal enhancement.

Modelling of parabolic trough direct steam generation solar collectors

Solar Energy, 1998
Solar electric generation systems (SEGS) currently in operation are based on parabolic trough solar collectors using synthetic oil heat transfer fluid in the collector loop to transfer thermal energy to a Rankine cycle turbine via a heat exchanger. To improve performance and reduce costs direct steam generation in the collector has been proposed.

Experimental investigation of new designed solar parabolic trough collectors

2018 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2018
Many studies have shown that dust accumulation can adversely affect the performance of solar collectors and parabolic through collectors, with no exceptions. This problem is of particular interest in the Gulf Region, due the high frequency of dusty days and sand storms.

Dynamic Performance of Parabolic Trough Solar Collector

2008
A model is set up to study the dynamic performance of the parabolic trough solar collector (PTC). Instantaneous beam solar radiation, incidence angle of solar beam to collector aperture, tracking angle of collector aperture and distribution of concentrated solar radiation along focal axis can be calculated. The results show that the energy gain and the
