Pathology of Pheochromocytoma and Extra‐adrenal Paraganglioma

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2006
Abstract:  The 2004 WHO classification of endocrine tumors defines pheochromocytoma as a tumor arising from chromaffin cells in the adrenal medulla. Closely related tumors in extra‐adrenal sympathetic and parasympathetic paraganglia are classified as extra‐adrenal paragangliomas. A pheochromocytoma is an intra‐adrenal sympathetic paraganglioma.

Extra-Adrenal Non-Functioning Paraganglioma

open access: yesTumori Journal, 1990
Extraadrenal non-functioning retroperitoneal paragangliomas are rare tumors. We herein report a case of retroperitoneal tumor which posed a diagnostic and management problem. Review of the literature shows only 16 previously reported cases of extraadrenal paraganglioma which underwent complete surgical excision.

Multifocal Extra-Adrenal Paraganglioma – Case Report

open access: yesPolish Journal of Surgery, 2015

It is usually benign and the treatment method of choice is a complete resection of the tumour. The authors present a case of 66-year-old female patient with a multifocal benign retroperitoneal paraganglioma ...

A Patient with Extra-adrenal Retroperitoneal Paraganglioma and Review of the Literature

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1998

Extra-adrenal paraganglioma of the median nerve

Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, 2013
An extra-adrenal paraganglioma is an uncommon tumour that arises from the paraganglia associated with the autonomous nervous system. A paraganglioma arising in the sensory-somatic nervous system is extremely rare and clinically is easily confused with other neurogenic tumours.

Paraganglioma: not just an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma

Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, 2011
Pheochromocytoma (PCC) and paraganglioma (PG) are evaluated and treated similarly. This study evaluates the hypothesis that tumor characteristics and outcome of patients with PCC and PG are equivalent.Records of patients from a single institution undergoing resection of PCC or PG from 1999 to 2010 were reviewed.

Extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma (paraganglioma) in a cat

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1990
Extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma (paraganglioma) arising from periadrenal tissue was diagnosed in an 18-year-old spayed domestic shorthair cat. The tumor was palpable on physical examination, but not apparent on plain radiographs. The cat developed temporary cardiac arrhythmia while the mass was being handled during excision, suggesting that the tumor ...
