RET is expressed but not mutated in extra-adrenal paragangliomas
The Journal of Pathology, 2000This study has investigated the role of the RET proto-oncogene, which has been identified as the susceptibility gene for multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 2, in the development of sporadic and familial extra-adrenal paragangliomas. RET protein expression was analysed by immunohistochemistry.

Metastatic Extra-Adrenal Sympathetic Paraganglioma in a Horse
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 2010Post-mortem examination was performed on a horse that died after exhibiting signs of colic. Gross findings included haemoperitoneum and a large round encapsulated mass located in the sublumbar area cranial to the left kidney. On sectioning the mass was solid red to brown and small nodules of similar tissue were noted at the periphery of the mass.

Extra-adrenal paragangliomas of the retroperitoneum
The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1980The clinical and pathologic features of 12 extra-adrenal paragangliomas of the retroperitoneum are presented. The patients (eight men, four women) had an average age of 43 years at the time of diagnosis; three had symptoms related to excess catecholamine secretion.

[Functioning extra-adrenal paragangliomas].
Minerva chirurgica, 1991The diagnosis of extra-adrenal paraganglioma requires the recognition of catecholamine hypertension and the site of the lesion. I-131-MIBG scintigraphy, CAT scan and angiography may localize primitive and metastatic lesions. Six cases of extra-adrenal paraganglioma (5 abdominal, 1 thoracic) surgically treated with complete resolution of the ...

Extra‐adrenal paraganglioma of the equine orbit: six cases
Veterinary Ophthalmology, 2009AbstractAt The Ohio State University from 1994–2006 six of seven horses evaluated for primary orbital disease were diagnosed with extra‐adrenal paraganglioma (EAPG). The horses ranged in age from 14 to 24 years, with a mean of 16.8 years. Duration of clinical signs was 1.5 years to 5 years, with a mean of 2.8 years.

Immunoreactive somatostatin in catecholamine-producing extra-adrenal paraganglioma
Cancer, 1982A patient with catecholamine-producing extra-adrenal paraganglioma was found to have a high concentration of immunoreactive somatostatin (IR-SRIF) in the peripheral blood plasma (47.0 pg/ml, normal; 13.3 +/- 5.3 pg/ml, mean +/- SD). After removal of the tumor, the plasma SRIF level fell within normal range (8.7 pg/ml).

Retroperitoneal extra-adrenal paraganglioma: a rare but important diagnosis
Irish Journal of Medical Science, 2008Extra-adrenal paragangliomas of the retroperitonium are infrequently diagnosed. Their malignant behaviour cannot be predicted on initial clinical and histological assessment. These tumours have higher propensity for subsequent metastasis compared with pargangliomas at other sites. We aim to describe a case report of an incidental finding of left ...

Asymptomatic extra-adrenal paraganglioma masquerading as retroperitoneal sarcoma
Clinical Journal of Gastroenterology, 2009A 41-year-old man without clinical symptoms was referred for treatment of an enlarging retroperitoneal tumor. Enhanced computed tomography showed a well-defined and heterogeneously enhanced tumor, 4 cm in size, in the dorsal portion of the pancreas. A low-density nodule was detected in the left adrenal gland, 10 mm in diameter.
