Detection of Zooplankton Prey in Squid Paralarvae with Immunoassay
Journal of Immunoassay, 1999Sustainable management of economically important squid requires monitoring of changes in their abundance, which are related inter alia, to their success in the food chain. The highest mortality is expected in the paralarval stages, which are prone to starvation. Causes of starvation may be linked to the lack of suitable prey.

Cephalopod paralarvae assemblages in Hawaiian Islands waters [PDF]
The distribution and abundance of cephalopod paralarvae near the Hawaiian Islands are described. Paralarvae were collected during 5 plankton surveys in 1991 to 1993. The 404 tows at 59 stations collected 10375 paralarvae from 21 families and 57 species.

Defensive Ball Formation in Oceanic Squid Paralarvae
Journal of Shellfish Research, 2018The head withdrawal reflex is a behavior that has been reported in young pelagic squids (paralarvae) and involves retraction of the head, arms, and proboscis (fused feeding tentacles) into the mantle cavity when the animals are disturbed. The present study investigated which artificial stimuli (mechanical, chemical, or light) trigger this behavior in ...

Evidence of external digestion of crustaceans in Octopus vulgaris paralarvae
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2000This paper reports, for the first time, the existence of external digestion of decapod larvae by the common octopus, Octopus vulgaris (Mollusca: Cephalopoda), paralarvae. Zoeae of three crab species were externally digested, leaving a whole and empty exoskeleton.

Morphological characteristics of paralarvae of cephalopods found in Thai waters
Marine Biodiversity, 2016Paralarvae of nine species of cephalopods, including the bobtail squid (Euprymna hyllebergi), sharp-tail pygmy squid (Idiosepius pygmaeus), bigfin reef squid (Sepioteuthis lessoniana), needle cuttlefish (Sepia aculeata), spineless cuttlefish (Sepiella inermis), Pharaoh cuttlefish (Sepia pharaonis), marble octopus (Amphioctopus aegina), lesser blue ...

Paralarvae of the jumbo squid, Dosidicus gigas
Invertebrate Biology, 2010Abstract. The rhynchoteuthion stage of the jumbo squid, Dosidicus gigas, has morphological characteristics similar to the paralarvae of the purpleback squid, Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis, making it difficult to determine the locations, seasons, and conditions where spawning of jumbo squid occurs. In this study, 180 paralarvae of D.

Dietary effect on the proteome of Octopus vulgaris paralarvae
2017This research was supported by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación through the OCTOPHYS Project (AGL-2010-22120-C03). The study was also carried out under the scope of a PROMETEO I and II Projects (2010/006, 2015/085) from Generalitat Valenciana.

Paralarval behaviour of eight species of the family Gonatidae (Teuthoidea, Cephalopoda) was examined in small 3–1 aquaria on board ship during planktonic surveys, which were carried out above and off the continental slope of the western part of the Bering Sea.
