Behavioral Mutants of Paramecium Aurelia

1973
A Paramecium can be viewed as a eucaryotic organism capable of behavior, but it can also be regarded as a unicell comparable to excitable cells, such as hair cells, neurons, etc. in multicellular forms. The genetics of behavior in Paramecium aurelia makes use of both its organismic and cellular properties.

Differential genic activity in Paramecium aurelia

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1967
AbstractAn autoradiographic analysis of macromolecular syntheses in the micronucleus of Paramecium aurelia was undertaken to discover whether the micronucleus was completely inert. There is a distinctive temporal ordering of micronuclear macromolecular synthesis during the fission cycle.

Poisonous effects of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on Paramecium aurelia

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1968
Abstract The bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces a poison that causes deleterious effects on the protozoan Paramecium aurelia. A variety of responses are evoked by the poison including rapid death by lysis, irregular “monster” forms, aberrant swimmers, and animal chains.
