DNA methylation in ciliates: implications in differentiation processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Much experimental evidence on the role of DNA methylation in gene expression has been reported. Here we review reports on DNA methylation in ciliated protozoa, emphasizing its implications in cell differentiation processes. Both types of methylated bases

The Biochemical Status of   Particles in Paramecium aurelia [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1969
SUMMARY: μ particles of stock 540 (syngen 1) of Paramecium aurelia were isolated and studied. Electron microscopy showed that isolated μ particles were very similar to bacteria in fine structure, the general appearance being similar to that found by earlier workers.

Evolutionary dynamics of a conserved sequence motif in the ribosomal genes of the ciliate Paramecium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background In protozoa, the identification of preserved motifs by comparative genomics is often impeded by difficulties to generate reliable alignments for non-coding sequences.

Species of the Paramecium aurelia Complex in Italy

open access: yesFolia Biologica, 2010
New stands of Paramecium pentaurelia were recorded in Valmarana, Veneto region in Italy and one stand of P. primaurelia was found at the same locality.

Top-Down vs Bottom-Up Effects on Predator-Prey Interactions in Aquatic Communities [PDF]

open access: yes
Ecology is studied at multiple scales to better understand how small changes at the individual level scale up to affect our ecosystems and global systems.

Genome-wide analysis of genetic and epigenetic control of programmed DNA deletion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
During the development of the somatic genome from the Paramecium germline genome the bulk of the copies of ∼45 000 unique, internal eliminated sequences (IESs) are deleted.

Immobilization Antigen in Heterozygous Clones of Paramecium aurelia [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1965
CLONES of Paramecium aurelia, heterozygous for two alleles at one of the loci specifying the immobilization antigens1, react to both parental type-specific antisera, but usually more strongly to one parental type than to the other. It is of considerable interest to determine whether these heterozygous antigens consist of one molecular species combining

Genetic studies on cytoplasmic particles in Paramecium [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
The object of the investigation was to determine whether the metagon hypothesis applies to the system of genes and kappa particles in stock 51 killers, syngen 4, ot Paramecium aμrelia.Clones of genotype kk were derived from Kk (heterozygote) killers ...
