Collective Segmentation and Labeling of Distant Entities in Information Extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In information extraction, we often wish to identify all mentions of an entity, such as a person or organization. Traditionally, a group of words is labeled as an entity based only on local information.

Radar Measurements of Morphological Parameters and Species Identification Analysis of Migratory Insects

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Migratory insect identification has been concerning entomology and pest managers for a long time. Their nocturnal behavior, as well as very small radar cross-section (RCS), makes individual detection challenging for any radar network.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Parameter Optimisation for Location Extraction and Prediction Applications [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Technology; Ubiquitous Computing and Communications; Dependable, Autonomic and Secure Computing; Pervasive Intelligence and Computing, 2015
The pervasive nature of location-aware hardware has provided an unprecedented foundation for understanding human behaviour. With a record of historic movement, in the form of geospatial trajectories, extracting locations meaningful to users is commonly performed as a basis for modelling a users’ interactions with their environment. Existing literature,

Robust Eye Centre Extraction using the Hough Transform [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Finding the eyes is an important stage of feature extraction in automatic face recognition. Current approaches include standard feature extraction techniques using heuristic methods specifically developed for human eyes.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Comparison of two extraction methods for ergosterol determination in vegetal feeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Ergosterol is the principal sterol of fungi in which it plays an essential role in cell membrane and other cellular constituents. This sterol is considered as a good marker of fungal contamination and of mycotoxin production.

Design and Evaluation of a Measurement Procedure to obtain the Electric Permittivity and the Magnetic Permeability

open access: yesRevista Elektrón, 2018
This article presents an implementation of the transmission/reflection line method to determine the intrinsic electromagnetic properties of unknown materials with relative magentic permeability not equal to one.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
