A self-focusing is observed that arises from a purely second-order nonlinear susceptibility in a phase-matched second-harmonic-generation experiment. Control of the magnitude and sign of the intensity-dependent phase shift is accomplished through a dispersion external to the nonlinear medium.

Architectural Design, 2006
AbstractThe assimilation of digital techniques in production and manufacturing has enabled innovative explorations into nonstandard material organisation. Yusuke Obuchi, Theodore Spyropoulos and Tom Verebes of the Design Research Lab (DRL) at the Architectural Association (AA) describe how an interest in a textiles approach has developed out of a ...

Proceedings of the 2nd international conference on Aspect-oriented software development, 2003
Aspect-oriented software development allows the programmer to identify and treat separately concerns that, subsequently, can be woven to different target applications. For this, aspect-oriented languages like AspectJ and Hyper/J provide mechanisms for defining and composing such crosscutting concerns. An introduction is a mechanism for defining certain

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 1985
The analysis of circulatory dynamics by functional data extraction from radiologic image sequences constitutes the latest development of digital imaging techniques in angiography. In this article, the methodologic approach of angiographic parameter extraction and the interpretation of functional information are outlined.

Parametric and Non‐parametric Encompassing Procedures*
Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, 2008AbstractWe study the asymptotic behaviour of encompassing statistics in general regression models. The theory for testing one parametric model against another parametric model is now well known, but the comparison of two non‐parametric models, or ‘crossed’ situations where a parametric model is tested against a non‐parametric one, has not been treated ...

Journal of Applied Physics, 1951
This paper outlines a theory of excitation of oscillations under the rather slow variations of a parameter on which a system depends. The basic equation is a Mathieu equation. The basic method consists in reducing the system to polar coordinates and applying perturbations.

Thinking parametric design: introducing parametric Gaudi
Design Studies, 2006Abstract This paper presents an innovative methodology for parametric design called Design Procedures (DP) and shows how it is applied to the columns of the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia. Design Procedures are actions that generate parametric models where geometrical components are consider as variables. A brief introduction on parametric
