Effect of Removing Outliers on Statistical Inference: Implications to Interpretation of Experimental Data in Medical Research

open access: yesMarshall Journal of Medicine, 2018
Background Data editing with elimination of “outliers” is commonly performed in the biomedical sciences. The effects of this type of data editing could influence study results, and with the vast and expanding amount of research in medicine, this effect ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Concept Learning Through Parametric Design - A learning situation design for parametric design in architectural studio education

open access: yeseCAADe proceedings, 2020
Over the past few decades, architectural practice and, consequently, the design studio have been increasingly challenged. Indeed, the development of digital tools and parametric design, in particular, has given rise to a new type of architectural knowledge.

DISCRETE-VOXEL PARAMETRIC DESIGN

open access: yesTheory and practice of design, 2023
The paper is devoted to the study of an innovative design method associated with the automated discrete-parametric representation of the frameworks of modeled objects, taking into account not only the visual and aesthetic characteristics of the product, but also the technological capabilities of its manufacture and the economic performance of the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multi-Objective Optimizing Curvilinear Steel Bar Structures of Hyperbolic Paraboloid Canopy Roofs

open access: yesBuildings, 2020
The paper concerns shaping curvilinear steel bar structures that are hyperbolic paraboloid canopy roofs by means of parametric design software Rhinoceros/Grasshopper and Karamba 3D.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
