Parametric Excitation of Rail Vehicles

Vehicle System Dynamics, 1988
SUMMARY This paper explores the parametrically excited behavior of U.S. passenger and freight vehicles on tangent track due to harmonic variations in conicity. Floquet theory is used to find the stability boundaries of these vehicles. Results show that principal parametric resonance occurs at excitation wavelengths that are half the kinematic ...

OSCILLATORY ORBITS OF THE PARAMETRICALLY EXCITED PENDULUM

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2003
We consider oscillatory, nonrotating periodic solutions of the parametrically excited pendulum. We determine the zones in the parameter space in which different types of oscillatory solutions are realized. In particular we determine the zones in which the T-periodic and 2T-periodic harmonic and subharmonic oscillatory solutions are the dominant type of

Parametric Excitation

Journal of Applied Physics, 1951
This paper outlines a theory of excitation of oscillations under the rather slow variations of a parameter on which a system depends. The basic equation is a Mathieu equation. The basic method consists in reducing the system to polar coordinates and applying perturbations.

Parametric excitation in non-linear dynamics

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2004
Consider a one-mass system with two degrees of freedom, non-linearly coupled, with parametric excitation in one direction. Assuming the internal resonance 1:2 and parametric resonance 1:2 we derive conditions for stability of the trivial solution by using both the harmonic balance method and the normal form method of averaging.

Parametric excitation of a plasma

Journal of Plasma Physics, 1970
The parametric effect of an applied uniform oscillating electric field on both unmagnetized and magnetized plasmas is investigated. By using a perturbation method of multitime scales, we have shown that parametric excitation of transverse waves propagating obliquely to the applied field in an unmagnetized plasma is possible.

Parametric Excitation in the Ionosphere

Physical Review Letters, 1971
Parametric excitation of ion waves is invoked to explain the efficient interaction between electromagnetic waves and the ionosphere.

Parametric Excitation in a Plasma Slab

The Physics of Fluids, 1969
The theory of parametric excitation involving Langmuir and ion-acoustic waves for a homogeneous, plasma slab with specular reflection of particles at the slab walls is treated. Optimum thresholds are determined for one or two traveling waves incident on the plasma.

Applications of the Theory of Impulsive Parametric Excitation and New Treatments of General Parametric Excitation Problems

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1973
In this paper the stability theory of impulsive parametric excitation developed in [1] is first applied to three mechanical systems. Explicit and exact stability conditions are easily found and some typical stability charts are presented. Also presented in the paper is the use of this theory and a parallel theory involving step functions as approximate
