The effect of parametric excitation on a self-excited three-mass system

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2004
This contribution deals with the quenching of self-excited vibrations by means of parametric excitation due to periodic variation of spring stiness. A three-mass chain system is investigated in detail. It is shown that the self-excitation can be fully or partly suppressed in a particular frequency interval.

Parametrically — Excited Oscillations

1997
Parametrically-excited oscillations are those which depend for their excitation upon the time-dependence of the parameters of the oscillatory system. The governing differential equations of this system have time-dependent coefficients, being generally periodic.

On Nonlinear Parametric Excitation Problems

1977
Publisher Summary This chapter highlights that one of the most interesting areas in the theory of vibrations is parametric excitation problems. Systems under parametric excitation can exhibit extremely complex behavior patterns and stability character.

Synchronization of Self-Oscillations by Parametric Excitation

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1998
This paper is devoted to the problem of synchronization of symmetrically coupled self-oscillators exhibiting chaos by means of chaos control technique. We use a nonfeedback method of control, in particular, high frequency periodic modulation of the coefficient of coupling.

RESONANT LAYERS IN A PARAMETRICALLY EXCITED PENDULUM

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002
The energy increment spectrum method is developed for the numerical prediction of a specific primary resonant layer, and the width of the resonant layer can be estimated through the energy increment spectrum. This numerical approach is applied to investigate the (2M:1)-librational and (M:1)-rotational, resonant layers in a parametrically excited ...

Parametric excitation of oscillations

2001
The simplest equation for a nonlinear oscillator under an external action varying its natural frequency is $$\ddot{x} + 2\delta \dot{x} + \omega _{0}^{2}\left( {1 + f(t)} \right)F(x) = 0,$$ (13.1) where f (t) is a function of time, and F(x) is a nonlinear function of x.

Parametric Excitations in Plasma in a Magnetic Field

Physical Review, 1969
The coupled Vlasov equations for electrons and ions in the presence of a strong long-wave-length electromagnetic field are solved. Calculations of the growth rates for the excitation of the upper-hybrid, lower-hybrid, and the Bernstein modes are presented and discussed.

Synchronous rotations in parametrically excited pendula

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2014
In this work, we provide an analytic justification for the existence of a synchronously rotating state in a Kapitsa pendulum, i.e., a pendulum where the base is subjected to vibration. Qualitative arguments as well as mathematical calculations are presented to demonstrate the existence of this state.

Parametric excitation of multimode dissipative systems

Physical Review A, 1987
A general approach to the study of parametric excitation of multimode dissipative systems is proposed. It is based on the derivation of normal form equations and on the reduction of these equations to flow of lower dimensionality. General results for single- and double-mode systems are presented.
