Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Entrepreneurial Education and Entrepreneurial Culture among University of Cape Coast Students in Ghana [PDF]

open access: yesAthens Journal of Education, 2014
Currently the Ghanaian economy's capacity to absorb new recruits into the formal sector has fallen. Therefore, for young people to escape the incidence of not getting employed after school, active intervention is necessary.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The Top-Down and Bottom-Up Systems of Musical Implication: Building on Meyer\u27s Theory of Emotional Syntax

open access: yes, 1991
The implication-realization model hypothesizes that emotional syntax in music is a product of two expectation systems—one top down, the other bottom up.

WHO BENEFITS MORE FROM DIRECT MARKETING SCHEMES? THE CASE OF ARABICA COFFEE COOPERATIVE AND ITS FARMERS MEMBER IN RURAL INDONESIA [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Papers Series : Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development, 2021
Cooperatives play a prominent role in the agricultural sector, both in developed and developing countries. This study aimed to examine the cost and profitability of direct marketing between a cooperative and its farmers member.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Recovery of predictor relationships via semiparametric and parametric growth models under misspecification

open access: yes, 2010
Proper specification of the discrete vs. continuous nature of individual differences in growth is notoriously error prone. Despite this fact, psychologists desire accurate prediction of growth trajectories.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
