Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

An asymptotic theory for model selection inference in general semiparametric problems. [PDF]

open access: yes
Recently, Hjort and Claeskens (2003) developed an asymptotic theory for model selection, model averaging and post-model selection/averaging inference using likelihood methods in parametric models, along with associated confidence statements.

Nonlinear Container Ship Model for the Study of Parametric Roll Resonance

open access: yes, 2007
Parametric roll is a critical phenomenon for ships, whose onset may cause roll oscillations up to 40, leading to very dangerous situations and possibly capsizing.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Bayesian indirect inference using a parametric auxiliary model

open access: yes, 2015
Indirect inference (II) is a methodology for estimating the parameters of an intractable (generative) model on the basis of an alternative parametric (auxiliary) model that is both analytically and computationally easier to deal with.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Productivity improvement in Korean rice farming: parametric and non-parametric analysis

open access: yes
The published empirical literature on frontier production functions is dominated by two broadly defined estimation approaches – parametric and non‐parametric.

Parametric Visualization and Navigation in Multidimensional Spaces

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents a visual model to increase visualization and efficiency when working with parametric models. The formalistic model allows to visually track all possible variations of parameters in a logical structure showing all design variations at ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...
