Frailty in survival analysis models (parametric frailty, parametric shared frailty, and frailty in Cox models [PDF]

open access: yes
Frailty models are used to model survival times in the presence of overdispersion or group-specific random effects. The latter are distinguished from the former by the term "shared" frailty models.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

GDP nowcasting with ragged-edge data: a semi-parametric modeling [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper formalizes the process of forecasting unbalanced monthly datasets in order to obtain robust nowcasts and forecasts of quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate through a semi-parametric modeling.

Regularized log-linear models for predicting underwater radiated noise spectra of small vessels

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Underwater radiated noise (URN) from vessels is an anthropogenic stressor that negatively affects marine ecosystems. Accordingly, the ability to estimate URN levels is a critical component for environmental assessment.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Semiparametric Estimation in Multivariate Nonstationary Time Series Models [PDF]

open access: yes
A system of multivariate semiparametric nonlinear time series models is studied with possible dependence structures and nonstationarities in the parametric and nonparametric components.

A Multi‐Sensor Approach for the Characterization of Tropical Cyclone Induced Swell—Application to TC Larry, 2021

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Sea states are likely highly complex and variable under tropical cyclone (TC) conditions. Outrunning the inner core TC vortex, swell systems can radiate in different directions with different wavelengths.

Techniques and Developments in Stochastic Streamflow Synthesis—A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesEncyclopedia
Stochastic streamflow synthesis has long been the cornerstone of water resource planning, enabling the generation of extended hydrological sequences that reflect natural variability beyond the limitations of observed records.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.
