Association between Ichthyocladius (Diptera: Chironomidae) and armored catfishes in the Guareí River basin, São Paulo State, Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2022
Ichthyocladius is a genus of chironomid (Diptera, Insecta) whose immature forms live attached to the bodies of some species of freshwater fishes. Here we investigate the association between Ichthyocladius spp. and armored catfish in streams of the Guareí

Parana River morphodynamics in the context of climate change

open access: yesInternational Journal of River Basin Management, 2013
ABSTRACTThis paper presents an analysis of the sediment dynamics that takes place at different scales within the Middle and the Lower Parana River in the La Plata Basin. The aim of this study is to provide a multi-disciplinary and multi-scale approach for the prediction of river future morphology in the context of climate change, the intended use of ...

Performance Assessment of the Immersed Boundary Method in the Framework of the Moment Representation Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
The immersed boundary method (IBM) was coupled with the moment representation lattice Boltzmann method (MR‐LBM), reducing bandwidth requirements compared to population‐based LBM formulations. A systematic assessment of IBM parameters was conducted to quantify their effect on computational performance.

Identification of Astyanax altiparanae (Teleostei, Characidae) in the Iguaçu River, Brazil, based on mitochondrial DNA and RAPD markers

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2002
Astyanax fishes are among the most important food-web components of South America rivers. In the Iguaçu River basin, the Astyanax genus is represented mainly by endemic species.

Ovarian histology and fecundity in the evaluation of the reproduction of the invasive species Serrasalmus marginatus (Characidae) on a neotropical floodplain

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2017
The construction of the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant in 1982 led to the formation of a reservoir, which, in turn, leveled the waters of the Paraná River by flooding the geographic barrier Salto de Sete Quedas.

The Drosophila community in xerophytic vegetations of the upper Parana-Paraguay river basin [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2006
The genus Drosophila is the most abundant in the Drosophilidae family. Some species are endemic to certain regions and others are cosmopolitans. In Brazil, there are several ecosystems to explore regarding the composition and ecological aspects of Drosophila. Xerophytic areas are an example.

Application of Principal Component Analysis and Probabilistic Neural Networks in Ferralsols Recovery Evaluation Through Planting of Mabea Fistulifera and Eucalyptus Urograndis

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents an innovative assessment model for analyzing the evolution of degraded soils subjected to different reclamation strategies. The proposal combines statistical and artificial intelligence tools to jointly integrate multiple physical and chemical soil properties, allowing for a more synthetic view of the processes.

Taxonomy and diversity of Marcgraviaceae, north of the São Francisco river, northeast Brazil

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
This study provides a comprehensive assessment of Marcgraviaceae species diversity north of the São Francisco river in northeastern Brazil, analyzing species richness and distribution patterns across 384 000 km² of phytogeographic domains. Through field collections, herbarium studies (both physical and digital), and detailed morphological analyses, we ...

Disentangling conservation asymmetries through socio‐economic transboundary factors across the Alto Paraná Atlantic Forest of South America

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecoregions are often defined based on homogeneous biophysical and ecological conditions and are optimal spatial units for designing conservation strategies. However, transboundary ecoregions such as the Alto Paraná Atlantic Forest (APAF) experience asymmetrical conservation outcomes, understood here as cross‐border differences, resulting from ...
