The feasibility of a brain-computer interface functional electrical stimulation system for the restoration of overground walking after paraplegia

open access: yesJournal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, 2015
BackgroundDirect brain control of overground walking in those with paraplegia due to spinal cord injury (SCI) has not been achieved. Invasive brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) may provide a permanent solution to this problem by directly linking the brain ...

Association of Omeprazole‐Related Myopathy With Drug–Drug and Drug–Gene Interactions Involving CYP2C19 and CYP3A4: A Nested Case–Control Study

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Omeprazole, a widely used proton pump inhibitor, has been associated with rare but serious adverse events such as myopathy. Previous research suggests that concurrent use of omeprazole with fluconazole, a potent cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2C19/3A4 inhibitor, may increase the risk of myopathy.

Paraparesis secondary to erratic migration of Dioctophyma renale in a dog

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2016
: A 4 years old mongrel stray bitch, weighing 16kg was submitted to physical examination to demonstrated inability of locomotion with the pelvic limbs. Extradural spinal cord compression was observed in myelotomography of the thoracolumbar segment.

Plasticity and awareness of bodily distortion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Knowledge of the body is filtered by perceptual information, recalibrated through predominantly innate stored information, and neurally mediated by direct sensory motor information.

Nephrocast‐V: A Deep Learning Model for the Prediction of Vancomycin Trough Concentration Using Electronic Health Record Data

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Vancomycin is a critical antibiotic for treating methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus and other gram‐positive bacterial infections, but achieving and maintaining therapeutic trough concentrations is challenging. Objectives We hypothesized that a deep learning model could accurately predict vancomycin trough concentrations 2

Male infertility in spinal cord trauma

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2005
Every year there are 10 thousand new cases of patients victimized by spinal cord trauma (SCT) in the United States and it is estimated that there are 7 thousand new cases in Brazil. Eighty percent of patients are fertile males.

Paraplegia in Kangaroos [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1870
SOME time ago I obtained from Mr. Fairgrieve the bodies of two Kangaroos, male and female, which died during the visit of Wombwell's Menagerie to the West of Scotland. In the female, which I received first, there was extensive ecchymosis in the nuchal region strongly suggestive of bites inflicted by her cage companions.

Weathering the storms of climate change: Preparing persons with disabilities and the physiatrists who provide their care for extreme hurricanes

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Climate‐driven disasters have disproportionate and often devastating consequences on individuals with disabilities. Warming ocean and air temperatures are fueling more extreme tropical cyclones, further endangering those living in at‐risk regions.

Cross‐lagged assessment between indices of leisure time physical activity and domains of quality of life after electrical stimulation training in persons with spinal cord injury: An exploratory trial

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Background An existing association was noted between leisure time physical activity (LTPA) and quality of life (QOL) after spinal cord injury (SCI). Furthermore, electrical stimulation exercise program has been shown to improve domains of QOL.
