Inference of Selection Based on Temporal Genetic Differentiation in the Study of Highly Polymorphic Multigene Families [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The co-evolutionary arms race between host immune genes and parasite virulence genes is known as Red Queen dynamics. Temporal fluctuations in allele frequencies, or the ‘turnover’ of alleles at immune genes, are concordant with predictions of the Red ...

Evolution and Biogeography of Haemonchus contortus: Linking Faunal Dynamics in Space and Time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
History is the foundation that informs about the nuances of faunal assembly that are essential in understanding the dynamic nature of the host-parasite interface.

Molecular prevalence, genetic characterization and patterns of Toxoplasma gondii infection in domestic small mammals from Cotonou, Benin

open access: yesParasite, 2022
Toxoplasmosis, one of the most prevalent parasitic infections in humans and animals, is caused by the intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Small mammals play a key role as intermediate reservoir hosts in the maintenance of the T.

Metazoan-protozoan parasite co-infections and host body weight in St Kilda Soay sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
For hundreds of years, the unmanaged Soay sheep population on St Kilda has survived despite enduring presumably deleterious co-infections of helminth, protozoan and arthropod parasites and intermittent periods of starvation.

Behavior out of control: experimental evolution of resistance to host manipulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many parasites alter their host's phenotype in a manner that enhances their own fitness beyond the benefits they would gain from normal exploitation. Such host manipulation is rarely consistent with the host's best interests resulting in suboptimal and ...

Genetic co‐structuring in host‐parasite systems: Empirical data from raccoons and raccoon ticks

open access: yesEcosphere, 2016
Many aspects of parasite biology critically depend on their hosts, and understanding how host‐parasite populations are co‐structured can help improve our understanding of the ecology of parasites, their hosts, and host‐parasite interactions.

Residual efficacy of indoor residual spraying using clothianidin (SumiShield 50WG) under experimental huts and field conditions in Senegal

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Background In Senegal, the main vector control strategies include indoor residual spraying (IRS) and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs).

Are sleeping site ecology and season linked to intestinal helminth prevalence and diversity in two sympatric, nocturnal and arboreal primate hosts (Lepilemur edwardsi and Avahi occidentalis)?

open access: yesBMC Ecology, 2018
Background Various factors, such as climate, body size and sociality are often linked to parasitism. This constrains the identification of other determinants driving parasite infections. Here, we investigate for the first time intestinal parasites in two

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
