Zuzalysin, a virulence metallopeptidase of the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis, is secreted as a latent, flexible ≈95‐kDa monomer. Calcium triggers cysteine‐switch activation and hierarchical assembly into pentamers, bipentamers, tripentamers, and a ≈5.6‐MDa, ≈355‐Å dodecahedron. An ATP‐Driven N Protein–DDX21 Molecular Switch Dynamically Controls SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA G‐Quadruplex Heterogeneity

An ATP‐driven molecular switch, comprising viral nucleocapsid (N) protein and host helicase DDX21, dynamically modulates SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA G‐quadruplex (G4) heterogeneity. These viral G4s feature non‐canonical ion‐dependence and act as energy‐sensitive structural checkpoints.

Broad‐Spectrum, Cell Envelope‐Active Marinocyclin Antibiotics From a Coral‐Derived Bacterium Are Effective Against Colistin‐Resistant Bacteria

Marinocyclins, polycationic macrocyclic depsipeptides, were discovered by genome mining from the marine coral‐derived bacterium Aquimarina megaterium. The compounds have broad‐spectrum activity against gram‐positive and gram‐negative ESKAPE bacteria.
