A comprehensive, integrative study approach combining morphology, population genetics, phylogenetics and biogeography revealed that the Acromyrmex octospinosus species complex consists of two species: A. octospinosus and its social parasite A. insinuator.

Abstract Biological pest control is a major ecosystem service and is known to depend on landscape heterogeneity. The composition and configuration of landscapes can affect natural enemy communities, trophic interactions, and pest density within agroecosystems.

Effect of Resource Abundance on Woodland Rodents' Demography at Latitudinal Extremes in Europe
The study aimed to assess the role of food availability on rodent demography in populations characterised by different dynamics, that is multiannual cycles in Northern European populations and mast‐driven outbreaks in Southern European populations. ABSTRACT Climate change effects on primary productivity are especially evident along altitudinal and ...

The Biogeography of Apicomplexan Parasites in Tropical Soils
We investigate the belowground biogeography of an important yet poorly described group of soil parasites, the Apicomplexa. We found both biotic and abiotic drivers that contribute to shaping the diversity and distribution of dominant Apicomplexa in tropical soil systems.

This study reveals the effects of short‐term high‐temperature stress on the survival, reproduction, and progeny development of M. manilae. It provides a theoretical basis for understanding the biological evolution mechanism of M. manilae in response to thermal stress and the biological control of pests by M.

Abstract The introduction of non‐native species into new environments can cause significant ecological harm and is considered a major conservation threat. As populations of invasive species continue to establish and increase across the globe, novel methods can provide new insights into their biology and potentially aid in management.

Abstract Spatial aggregation of environmental or trophically transmitted parasites has the potential to influence host–parasite interactions. The distribution of parasites on hosts is one result of those interactions, and the role of spatial aggregation is unclear.

Cancer stem cells, characterized by self‐renewal, differentiation, heterogeneity, plasticity and tumorigenicity, are regulated by intrinsic factors such as signaling pathways, transcription factors, metabolism and noncoding RNAs, as well as environmental cells (including tumor cells, immune cells and stromal cells), environmental factors and distant ...
