Branching within branching I: The extinction problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We consider a discrete-time host-parasite model for a population of cells which are colonized by proliferating parasites. The cell population grows like an ordinary Galton-Watson process, but in reflection of real biological settings the multiplication mechanisms of cells and parasites are allowed to obey some dependence structure.

Spatial structures in a simple model of population dynamics for parasite-host interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Spatial patterning can be crucially important for understanding the behavior of interacting populations. Here we investigate a simple model of parasite and host populations in which parasites are random walkers that must come into contact with a host in order to reproduce.

Developing heterospecific sterile insect technique for pest control: insights from the spotted wing fly Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Irradiated Drosophila melanogaster males successfully court and mate with D. suzukii females and significantly reduce numbers of D. suzukii offspring under different species ratios. Abstract BACKGROUND Reproductive interference (i.e. sexual interaction between males of one species and females of another species that reduce the fitness of one or both ...

Effects of the host and parasitoid densities on the quality production of Trichogramma chilonis on lepidopterous (Sitotroga cereallela and Corcyra cephalonica) eggs [PDF]

open access: yesArthropods, 2012
The present study was conducted for efficient and quality production of the stingless wasp, Trichogramma chilonis Ishii with respect to rearing host and parasitoid densities of the angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cereallela (Olivier) and the rice meal ...

Modeling parasitoid development: climate change impacts on Telenomus remus (Nixon) and Trichogramma foersteri (Takahashi) in southern Brazil

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Phenological models revealed temperature‐driven development variability in Telenomus remus and Trichogramma foersteri, highlighting potential impacts of climate change on their biological control efficacy in warmer and colder regions. Abstract BACKGROUND The egg parasitoids Telenomus remus (Nixon) and Trichogramma foersteri (Takahashi) were recently ...

Influence of egg card color preference, inoculation time, generational succession, and learning experience on the parasitism of Trichogramma ostriniae.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study investigated the parasitic selection preferences of female Trichogramma ostriniae on egg cards of different colors, considering the effects of inoculation time, generations, and learning experiences on wasp parasitism.

Parasites and fire

open access: yesParasitology Today, 1996
In several countries in the European Mediterranean, fire desroys thousands of hectares of vegetation every year, thereby disturrbing the balance between flora and fauna.

Side effects of pesticides used in organic and conventional tomato crops on Dolichogenidea gelechiidivoris, a parasitoid of Tuta absoluta

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals strong variability in the effects of eight tomato integrated pest management‐compatible pesticides on Dolichogenidea gelechiidivoris, identifying harmful compounds such as spinosad and more selective ones such as sulfur and spiromesifen, depending on the exposure route.

Role of temperature and hosts (Sitotroga cereallela and Corcyra cephalonica) egg age on the quality production of Trichogramma chilonis [PDF]

open access: yesArthropods, 2012
The present study was conducted for efficient and quality production of the stingless wasp, Trichogramma chilonis Ishii with respect to rearing temperature and host egg age of the angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cereallela (Olivier) and the rice meal ...
