The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

Characterization of larval gut microbiota of two endoparasitoid wasps associated with their common host, Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae)

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Insect gut microbes play important roles in digestion, metabolism, development, and environmental adaptation. Parasitoid wasps are one of the most important biological control agents in pest control, while the gut microbial species compositions and the ...

Efficacy of the larval parasitoid, Bracon hebetor Say. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) on the greater wax moth larvae, Galleria mellonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) under laboratory and field conditions

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2019
The greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella Linnaeus (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is considered one of the most important pests effecting honeybee industry.

Simultaneous Parasitism of Field-Collected Green Cloverworm, \u3ci\u3eHypena Scabra\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Larvae by Endoparasitioids and an Entomopathogenic Fungus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The impacts of entomopathogens (e.g., fungi, bacteria, protists and viruses) on larval Lepidoptera and their associated insect parasitoids have been examined in laboratory studies but field studies of interaction between these two mortality factors are ...

Effects of timed LED regimes on tomato plant traits, performance of two‐spotted spider mites, and predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2300-2311, April 2025.
Light‐emitting diode (LED)‐based treatments for enhancing crop production and pest management have primarily focused on continuous treatments. This study, using Tetranychus urticae and Phytoseiulus persimilis, demonstrates that the timing of LED supplementation is crucial for designing integrated pest management strategies that improve both plant ...

Allee effects in a Ricker-type predator-prey system [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We study a discrete host-parasitoid system where the host population follows the classical Ricker functional form and is also subject to Allee effects. We determine basins of attraction of the local attractors of the single population model when the host intrinsic growth rate is not large.

Silicon fertilization in maize increases attractiveness of nocturnal herbivore‐induced plant volatiles to Spodoptera frugiperda natural enemies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Silicon (Si) fertilization enhances the attractiveness of plant volatiles emitted by fall armyworm‐infested maize plant to the predatory earwig Doru luteipes by triggering the emission of the terpene neryl acetate. Abstract BACKGROUND Silicon (Si) fertilization has been well‐documented to enhance plant resistance against insect pests by increasing the ...
