Offspring performance does not explain oviposition preference in the leafminer Stigmella sorbi (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae): a tri‐trophic perspective

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We studied oviposition site selection in a leaf‐mining moth (Stigmella sorbi) on rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in northwestern Russia, assessing larval performance across different shoot types, leaf positions, and leaflets. Larval survival was highest on long vegetative shoots, yet females showed no preference for these optimal sites.

Carbohydrate Diet and Reproductive Performance of a Fruit Fly Parasitoid,Diachasmimorpha tryoni [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2013
Augmentative releases of parasitoid wasps are often used successfully for biological control of fruit flies in programs worldwide. The development of cheaper and more effective augmentative releases of the parasitoid wasp Diachasmimorpha tryoni (Cameron) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) may allow its use to be expanded to cover Queensland fruit fly ...

Sperm Depletion and Mating Behavior in the Parasitoid Wasp \u3ci\u3eSpalangia Cameroni\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mating behavior was examined in the parasitoid wasp Spalangia cameroni. Males attempted copulation with both virgins and already mated females. Males attempted copulation regardless of whether they still had sperm. Already mated females rejected attempts

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

State of the spread of the exotic parasitoid wasp Leptopilina japonica tracking the route of its invasive host fly Drosophila suzukii in France

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
To document the current distribution of Leptopilina japonica in France and compare its genetic background, we collected wild fleshy‐fruited plants and cultivated cherries from 11 sites across different regions. The fruits were collected from the canopy. We calculated the percentage of emerging individuals of L.

Seven new species of Spathidexia Townsend (Diptera: Tachinidae) reared from caterpillars in Area de Conservación Guanacaste, Costa Rica

open access: yesBiodiversity Data Journal, 2015
We describe seven new species of Spathidexia (Diptera: Tachinidae) reared from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), northwestern Costa Rica. All were reared from various species of ACG caterpillars during an ongoing inventory of caterpillars, their ...

Performance of augmentorium as a sanitation technique against fruit flies (Diptera: tephritidae) in Reunion Island [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background. Tephritid fruit flies cause severe damage to fruit and vegetable crops in Reunion Island. Instead of the curative approach to reduce existing populations, the first step proposed for their management is sanitation.

Plant Domestication Affects the Oviposition Behavior and Performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a Parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
In this study, we investigated the effects of blueberry domestication on the oviposition behavior and performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii. Domestication of blueberries reduced the oviposition‐searching behavior of the parasitoid but enhanced parasitoid performance, including offspring performance. Additionally, blueberry

First occurrence of parasitoid Spalangia endius (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) in pupae of Peckia chrysostoma (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) in Brazil

open access: yesBiotemas, 2002
The objective of the study is to report the firts occurrence of the parasitoid Spalangia endius (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) on pupae of Peckia chrysostoma (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae), a fly of medical-sanitary importance.
