Chronic Paraspinal Muscle Injury Model in Rat [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Korean Neurosurgical Society, 2016
The objective of this study is to establish an animal model of chronic paraspinal muscle injury in rat.Fifty four Sprague-Dawley male rats were divided into experimental group (n=30), sham (n=15), and normal group (n=9). Incision was done from T7 to L2 and paraspinal muscles were detached from spine and tied at each level.

Cross-sectional area of the paraspinal muscles and its association with muscle strength among fighter pilots: a 5-year follow-up

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2019
Background A small cross sectional area (CSA) of the paraspinal muscles may be related to low back pain among military aviators but previous studies have mainly concentrated on spinal disc degeneration.

Associations of Lumber Disc Degeneration With Paraspinal Muscles Myosteatosis in Discogenic Low Back Pain

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
Accompanied with intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration, increasing fat infiltration of paraspinal muscles may be related to discogenic low back pain (DLBP), but their relationship is still unclear and the classical animal models are not completely ...

Posture‐related stiffness mapping of paraspinal muscles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, 2019
AbstractThe paraspinal compartment acts as a bone–muscle composite beam of the spine. The elastic properties of the paraspinal muscles play a critical role in spine stabilization. These properties depend on the subjects’ posture, and they may be drastically altered by low back pain. Supersonic shear wave elastography can be used to provide quantitative

Intramuscular myxoma of the cervical paraspinal muscle [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Spine Journal, 2009
Myxoma is a neoplasm of mesenchymal origin composed of undifferentiated stellate cells in a myxoid stroma. This tumor can develop in a variety of locations. Myxomas that arise from skeletal muscles are called intramuscular myxomas. They usually occur in large skeletal muscles.

Revertant fibres and dystrophin traces in Duchenne muscular dystrophy: Implication for clinical trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is characterised by the absence of dystrophin in muscle biopsies, although residual dystrophin can be present, either as dystrophin-positive (revertant) fibres or traces.

The risk of hematoma following extensive electromyography of the lumbar paraspinal muscles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to provide a controlled trial looking at the risk of paraspinal hematoma formation following extensive paraspinal muscle electromyography.

Jogging Kinematics After Lumbar Paraspinal Muscle Fatigue [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Athletic Training, 2009
Abstract Context: Isolated lumbar paraspinal muscle fatigue causes lower extremity and postural control deficits. Objective: To describe the change in body position during gait after fatiguing lumbar extension exercises in persons with recurrent episodes of low back pain compared with ...

The Application of Surface Electromyography Technology in Evaluating Paraspinal Muscle Function

open access: yesDiagnostics
Surface electromyography (sEMG) has emerged as a valuable tool for assessing muscle activity in various clinical and research settings. This review focuses on the application of sEMG specifically in the context of paraspinal muscles.

Posterior muscle chain activity during various extension exercises: An observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Back extension exercises are often used in the rehabilitation of low back pain. However, at present it is not clear how the posterior muscles are recruited during different types of extension exercises.
