Individuals with Recurrent Low Back Pain Exhibit Significant Changes of Paraspinal Muscle Performance after Lumbar Multifidus Intramuscular Fine Wire Electrode Insertion

open access: yes, 2018
STUDY DESIGN: Case control study. BACKGROUND: Recurrent low back pain (RLBP) is associated with paraspinal muscle dysfunction. Intramuscular electromyography (EMG) is a common tool for studying activation of the deep lumbar paraspinal muscles such as ...

ROS‐Responsive Wedelolactone Hydrogel Promotes Intervertebral Disc Repair by Disrupting the NF‐κB–LCN2 Inflammatory Feedback Loop

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically robust, ROS‐responsive hydrogel is engineered to treat intervertebral disc degeneration by targeting the NF‐κB–LCN2 inflammatory feedback loop. By delivering wedelolactone specifically within oxidative niches, this system disrupts macrophage–disc cell crosstalk.

Revisiting paravertebral muscles in European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and European brown hares (Lepus europaeus) (Leporidae; Lagomorpha)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Domesticated European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) have long been chosen as laboratory model organisms. Despite this, there has been no definitive study of the vertebral musculature of wild rabbits. Relevant descriptions of well‐studied veterinary model mammals (such as dogs) are generally applicable, but not appropriate for a species ...

Core muscle activity during TRX suspension exercises with and without kinesiology taping in adults with chronic low back pain: Implications for rehabilitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This study aimed to examine the effects of kinesiology taping (KT) and different TRX suspension workouts on the amplitude of electromyographic (EMG) activity in the core muscles among people with chronic low back pain (LBP). Each participant (total n=21)

Ultrasound‐Guided Liposomal vs. Conventional Bupivacaine Erector Spinae Plane Block Plus Gabapentin for Postherpetic Neuralgia

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to compare efficacy and safety of ultrasound‐guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) using liposomal (LB) versus conventional bupivacaine (CB), each plus standardized gabapentin, in patients with postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). A total of 116 PHN patients were randomized to ESPB‐LB or ESPB‐CB; both groups received standardized ...

Clinical Algorithm‐Guided Approach to Botulinum Toxin Type A Treatment for Axial Postural Abnormalities in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Axial postural abnormalities (APAs) are common, disabling complications of Parkinson's disease (PD) with unclear pathophysiology. The presence of hyperactivity in multiple trunk muscles supports the use of botulinum toxin (BTA). However, its application is complex, due to the lack of standardized clinical and electrophysiological ...

A case report of thoracolumbar paraspinal myopathy as the cause of camptocormia in a patient with atypical parkinsonism

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2017
Background Camptocormia is severe flexion of the thoracolumbar spine, exaggerated during standing and walking but minimized in supine position. Even though camptocormia is a relatively common condition during the course of Parkinson’s disease, there is ...
