Climatically influenced interactions between the Mediterranean and the Paratethys during the Tortonian

Paleoceanography, 2003
The Paratethys was a separate branch of the Tethys Ocean that developed as a series of inland seaways, brackish lakes, and wetlands within the interiors of central‐eastern Europe and western Asia during the Oligocene‐Neogene. A short‐lived connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Paratethys continental realm toward the very end of the Messinian

Neogene Park – Vertebrate Migration in the Mediterranean and Paratethys

Geobios, 2013
The RCMNS Interim Colloquium ‘‘Neogene Park – Vertebrate Migration in the Mediterranean and Paratethys’’ was held in Scontrone (Abruzzo, Italy) on March 1–3, 2011. Its target was analyzing the faunal interactions between the Neogene terrestrial and marine domains in the Mediterranean and Paratethys.

An oligocene sink for organic carbon: Upwelling in the paratethys?

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1987
A synoptic review of the organic carbon content, kerogen type, biogenic siliceous sediments and planktonic remains is attempted for the often anoxic Oligocene-Early Miocene sediments of the Paratethys covering a large area between the Rhine Valley and the Aral Sea.

Morphogenesis of rissoidae in the inland basins of the Eastern Paratethys

Paleontological Journal, 2006
Miocene rissoids from the heterochronous low-salinity seas of the Eastern Paratethys (Early Chokrakian, Karaganian, Late Konkian, Early Sarmatian, and Early Maeotian) were revised. The polyphyletic genus Mohrensternia is subdivided into several generic and subgeneric taxa.

On early Sarmatian fishes from the Eastern Paratethys

Paleontological Journal, 2009
Early Sarmatian bony fish assemblages from the Pshekha River (northern Caucasus) and the village of Naslavcea (northern Moldova) are compared. It is proposed that, in the Early Sarmatian, connection between the North Caucasian and Moldavian basins was hampered and the two fish localities were formed under different conditions.

A Radiometric Time Scale for the Neogene of the Paratethys Region

1978
The radiometric time scale of Paratethys Neogene is presented. Fifty-four radiometric ages of the volcanic rocks are taken into consideration. The majority of them are controlled mostly by marine biostratigraphy. The Egerian (Oligo-Miocene) and Eggenburgian (lower Miocene) are dated only by glauconite ages contradictory among themselves and the ...
