Intraoperative Autofluorescence and Indocyanine Green Angiography for the Detection and Preservation of Parathyroid Glands

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2020
Fluorescence imaging is a well-known method for both the in vivo and in vitro identification of specific cells or tissues. This imaging tool is gaining importance in the intraoperative detection and preservation of parathyroid glands during endocrine ...

Parathyroid Glands

open access: yes, 2023
Parathyroid glands regulate the levels of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamin D in the human body via the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). There are several disorders that can affect the parathyroid glands. These can be genetic, idiopathic,

European multicentre study on outcome of surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Some 5861 patients undergoing first‐time surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism were registered in the Eurocrine® database between 2015 and 2018. The use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement decreased the risk of conversion and persistent hypercalcaemia.

Complications after medullary thyroid carcinoma surgery: multicentre study of the SQRTPA and EUROCRINE® databases

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study investigated postoperative complications after surgery for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in Europe. Hypoparathyroidism, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy and bleeding requiring reoperation occurred in 170 (26·2 per cent), 62 (13·7 per cent) and 17 (2·6 per cent) patients respectively.

Parathyroid localization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Twenty-nine consecutive patients with suspected primary hyperparathyroidism were examined preoperatively using ultrasound, sonographically guided fine needle aspiration, and aspirate immunostaining for PTH.

Intact parathyroid hormone levels localize causative glands in persistent or recurrent renal hyperparathyroidism: A retrospective cohort study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Persistent or recurrent renal hyperparathyroidism may occur after total parathyroidectomy and transcervical thymectomy with forearm autograft under continuous stimulation due to uremia. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels may reflect persistent or recurrent

The prevalence and anatomy of parathyroid glands: a meta-analysis with implications for parathyroid surgery

open access: yesLangenbeck's archives of surgery (Print), 2019
PurposeThe anatomy of parathyroid glands (PTG) is highly variable in the population. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic analysis on the prevalence and location of PTG in healthy and hyperparathyroidism (HPT) patients.MethodsAn extensive ...

The Diagnostic Accuracy of High Resolution Ultrasound Imaging for Detection of Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2011
Ultrasound is one of the preferred modalities for evaluation of the parathyroid glands. This study was undertaken to determine the accuracy of high resolution ultrasound for secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic renal failure. From March
