The Anchoring Function: Parental Authority and the Parent‐Child Bond
Family Process, 2013Descriptions of parental authority and of the formation of a secure parent‐child bond have remained unconnected in conceptualizations about parenting and child development. The parental anchoring function is here presented as an integrative metaphor for the two fields.

Resilient Parenting: Overcoming Poor Parental Bonding
Social Work Research, 2007This study identified groups of mothers with varying patterns of adaptive functioning and bonds with their own parents. These patterns were related to mothers' parenting of their own children to understand how some mothers avoid repeating the cycle of poor parenting.

Perceptions of parental bonding in borderline patients
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1989Eighteen borderline and 29 nonborderline female patients were scored on perceptions of care and of protection by each of their parents. The two groups differed significantly in that borderline patients perceived less care than did nonborderline patients, particularly from their mothers.

The Parental Bonding Instrument: Factorial structure
British Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1987The Parental Bonding Instrument was administered to 49 schizophrenic out‐patients attending a depot injection clinic. Subjects were instructed to rate each of their parents as they remembered them in their first 16 years. Principal components analyses followed by orthogonal varimax rotations were performed separately for mothers and fathers.
