The application of multi-objective robust design methods in ship design [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
When designing large complex vessels, the evaluation of a particular design can be both complicated and time consuming. Designers often resort to the use of concept design models enabling both a reduction in complexity and time for evaluation.

Effects of temperature, flow rate, number of stages and a heads column on congener removal in fuel‐ethanol distillation: a simulation study

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 726-739, April 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Industrial fuel‐ethanol units must remove trace volatile congeners (acetaldehyde, ethyl acetate, carbon dioxide) to meet quality requirements. In Brazilian systems, a small heads column (“Column D”) is often placed above the stripper.

Improvement of Starch Extraction Conditions From Agro‐Industrial Residues in Ubá Mango

open access: yesStarch - Stärke, Volume 78, Issue 4, April 2026.
Starch was successfully extracted from the Mango (variety Ubá) seed kernel. Two experimental designs were carried out to improve starch extraction, and results showed that decreasing incubation time and NaHSO3 concentration increased yield. According to the characterization, the kernel starch showed similarity between the Ubá variety and other mango ...

Towards a Novel Biocontrol Strategy: High Performance of Optimised Cell Wall‐Degrading Enzymes Secreted by Escovopsis primorosea LBM 277

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Escovopsis primorosea LBM 277 efficiently produced proteases, β‐1,3‐glucanases and chitinases under submerged fermentation using Leucoagaricus gongylophorus cell walls and Mandels complex. RSM‐BBD optimization significantly increased enzyme activity. The enzymatic cocktail remained stable for 30 days at room temperature and pH 4–6, aligning with the ...

Biodegradable HPMC–chitosan film for moisture retention and quality preservation in fresh‐cut mango

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 5, Page 2905-2916, 30 March 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Replacing conventional plastics with biodegradable solutions that control moisture loss in fresh‐cut produce is a strategic need. This study developed hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and chitosan (CS) films plasticised with glycerol (Gly) and evaluated their use as sealing lids for fresh‐cut mango. RESULTS The selected monolayer
