A multi-criteria approach for evaluating major league baseball batting performance

open access: yesJournal of Sports Analytics, 2022
The evaluation of player performance typically involves a number of criteria representing various aspects of performance that are of interest. Pareto optimality and weighted aggregation are useful tools to simultaneously evaluate players with respect to ...

Insurance with multiple insurers: A game-theoretic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper studies the set of Pareto optimal insurance contracts and the core of an insurance game. Our setting allows multiple insurers with translation invariant preferences.

Data‐Driven Discovery of Quaternary Ammonium Interlayers for Efficient and Thermally Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An active learning framework, grounded in independently generated in‐house experimental data, enables reliable discovery of high‐performance interfacial materials for perovskite solar cells. Iterative model refinement autonomously converges toward structurally robust quaternary ammonium architectures, establishing a new design principle for interfacial

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Unanimity games and Pareto optimality [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Game Theory, 1985
A central question in group decision theory is the existence of a simple mechanism that necessarily leads to Pareto optimal outcomes despite noncooperative behavior of the participants. It is shown that the multistage unanimity game is such a mechanism if we assume that the non- cooperative players end at an equilibrium which is symmetric and ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Implications of Pareto Efficiency for Two-Agent (Household) Choice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study when two-member household choice behavior is compatible with Pareto optimality. We ask when an external observer of household choices, who does not know the individuals' preferences, can rationalize the choices as being Pareto-optimal.

Modular, Textile‐Based Soft Robotic Grippers for Agricultural Produce Handling

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces textile‐based pneumatic grippers that transform simple textiles into robust bending actuators. Detailed experiments uncover how cut geometry and fabric selection shape performance. Successful handling of fragile agricultural items showcases the potential of textile robotics for safe, scalable automation in food processing and ...

Pareto Optimality and Strategy Proofness in Group Argument Evaluation (Extended Version) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An inconsistent knowledge base can be abstracted as a set of arguments and a defeat relation among them. There can be more than one consistent way to evaluate such an argumentation graph.
