Kognition und funktionelle Reorganisation bei Kindern mit Rolando-Epilepsie [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Die Rolando-Epilepsie (RE) oder benigne Epilepsie mit zentro-temporalen Spikes (BECTS) ist mit ihrer hohen Prävalenz eine der häufigsten kindlichen fokalen idiopathischen Epilepsien.

Intracranial electroencephalographic approaches in the intensive care unit: Safety, feasibility, and coverage

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Nonconvulsive epileptic activity is common after acute brain injury and contributes to neuronal injury and poor outcomes. Although intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) improves detection compared with surface EEG (suEEG), it currently relies on focal recordings of epileptic dynamics.

A prospective study of electrophysiological and behavioural measures of cognitive function in patients with epilepsy

open access: yes, 2004
PhDAims: The aim of this thesis was firstly, to prospectively examine cognitive function in relation to epilepsy, with event-related potential (ERP) and neuropsychological assessments, over a one year period.

Neuroanatomical correlates of psychosis in temporal lobe epilepsy: voxel-based morphometry study

open access: yes, 2010
BackgroundTemporal lobe epilepsy is associated with a significant risk of psychosis but there are only limited studies investigating the underlying neurobiology.AimsTo characterise neuroanatomical changes in temporal lobe epilepsy and comorbid psychosis ...

Targeted senotherapy improves electrographic and behavioral outcomes in a mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Current pharmacotherapy for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is limited to symptomatic treatment and leaves approximately one third of patients with inadequate seizure control. Discovering disease‐modifying targets is an unmet clinical need. We have previously identified senescent cells (SCs) as one such target. Many drugs that eliminate

Glymphatic dysfunction couples with cortical excitation–inhibition imbalance in epilepsy: Evidence from Rasmussen encephalitis

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Cong Fu et al. demonstrate that glymphatic system dysfunction is linked to enhanced inhibitory cortical activity using diffusion MRI and EEG. These findings highlight a mechanistic link between perivascular fluid dynamics and neuronal activity, suggesting a role for glymphatic function in maintaining cortical stability in epilepsy.

Stereo‐EEG mapping of visual working memory with task‐related high‐gamma modulations

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective We describe a safe, informative, and easy‐to‐implement approach for presurgical mapping of visual working memory (VWM) with stereo‐electroencephalography (SEEG). Methods Twenty‐four patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy, 11–23 years of age, performed a single‐probe change detection VWM task, during SEEG monitoring.

Structural and functional MRI following 4-aminopyridine-induced seizures: A comparative imaging and anatomical study

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2006
Structural and functional MRI was used in conjunction with computerized electron microscopy morphometry to study changes 2 h, 24 h and 3 days after 4-aminopyridine-induced seizures lasting 2 h in rats.
