Parkinsonism

2010
Parkinsonism is defined by the presence of two or more of tremor at rest, bradykinesia, rigidity, and postural instability. It is a relatively uncommon class of movement disorder in children, but can arise through a variety of pathological processes. Juvenile Parkinson’s disease is a rare neurodegenerative condition with several known causes.

Lisuride in parkinsonism

Neurology, 1981
We studied the actions of lisuride, a dopaminergic ergot derivative, in 20 parkinsonian patients. When the dose was increased gradually, most patients tolerated up to 5 mg daily. Clinical assessment and objective, computer-assisted evaluation revealed improvement in akinesia, rigidity and tremor.

Aromatic amino acids and modification of parkinsonism.

New England Journal of Medicine, 1967
THE known biochemical abnormalities in Parkinson's disease consist of a decrease of melanin pigment in the substantia nigra1 , 2 and a decrease of some biogenic amines in the substantia nigra and the corpus striatum.3 These 2 defects might be ...

Modification of Parkinsonism--chronic treatment with L-dopa.

New England Journal of Medicine, 1969
Slowly increasing oral doses of L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) induced at least partial improvement of some manifestations in a series of 28 patients with Parkinsonism.

Parkinsonism

2014
The classic triad of parkinsonism includes bradykinesia (slowness of movement and speech), rigidity (increased resistance of the arms, legs, neck, and torso to passive movement) and tremor (typically in the hands or arms, present at rest, but not with movement).

Functional Connectome in Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinsonism

Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, 2021
There has been an exponential growth in functional connectomics research in neurodegenerative disorders. This review summarizes the recent findings and limitations of the field in Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonian syndromes.Increasingly more sophisticated methods ranging from seed-based to network and whole-brain dynamic functional ...

Parkinsonism and Parkinson's disease

2002
The diagnosis of PD requires a thorough investigation of the main neurologic signs of the disease, as well as the search for signs that are atypical of PD, which may suggest diferential diagnoses (Quinn, 1995). Several diagnostic criteria for PD have been proposed (see Table 2.3), but even in the most experienced Movement Disorders Clinics, about 10–35%

Sphingolipids in the Pathogenesis of Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinsonism

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2019
The pathogenic mechanisms underlying Parkinson's disease (PD)/parkinsonism affect mitochondrial and endolysosomal trafficking. The retromer is required to retrieve some proteins from endosomes to the Golgi and plasma membrane. Here, we discuss how retromer-dependent retrieval also affects ceramide metabolism.

Parkinson's disease.

Clinical evidence, 2002
Around 1% of adults have Parkinson's disease, with a median time of 9 years between diagnosis and death. We conducted a systematic review and aimed to answer the following clinical questions: What are the effects of drug treatments in people with early-stage Parkinson's disease?
