Histopathology, salivary flow and ultrasonography of the parotid gland:three complementary measurements in primary Sjögren's syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
OBJECTIVE: The involvement of salivary glands in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) can be assessed in different ways: histopathology, salivary flow and ultrasonography.

When Parotid Swelling Reveals Relapsed Breast Cancer: A Rare Metastatic Pathway

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Parotid tumor can be the first manifestation of relapsed breast cancer, even years after remission. Awareness of this rare metastatic pathway is crucial, as timely recognition of atypical parotid masses in patients with a breast cancer history can guide ...

Classification of High‐ and Low‐Risk Patients With Dermal Leiomyosarcoma: An Exploratory Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Risk factors for dermal leiomyosarcoma (dLMS) metastasis remain poorly defined because methodological constraints, small sample sizes, and short follow‐up have limited previous studies. Objectives To investigate risk factors for metastasis and local recurrence, and to propose a high‐ and low‐risk classification for dLMS. Methods All

miR‐9 Restricts Insulin Secretion by Targeting Rab34, Which Mediates Lysosomal Degradation of Proinsulin

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Insulin secretion is a complex, vesicular transport process. Rab34 is a key regulator of intracellular vesicle transport; however, its role in insulin secretion has not yet been reported. miRNA‐9 is vital for the development and progression of the diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to investigate whether miR‐9 targets

Evaluation of Systemic Inflammatory Markers in Predicting Malignancy in Parotid Gland Tumors

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Preoperative systemic inflammatory indices may assist in distinguishing benign from malignant parotid tumors. In this cohort of 259 patients undergoing parotidectomy, malignant tumors were associated with higher neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values, as well as larger tumor size and older age.

Parotid gland fat related Magnetic Resonance image biomarkers improve prediction of late radiation-induced xerostomia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: This study investigated whether Magnetic Resonance image biomarkers (MR-IBMs) were associated with xerostomia 12 months after radiotherapy (Xer(12m)) and to test the hypothesis that the ratio of fat-to-functional parotid tissue is related to Xer(

Head and Neck Metastases From Infraclavicular Primary Tumors: Analysis of 136 Cases

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Distant metastases in the head and neck region are rare, often posing challenges for ENT specialists and being of crucial importance in the management of infraclavicular primary tumors. Methods The case series presented here aims to outline the relevant aetiologies and clinical presentation in the head and neck region.

Transoral Robotic Resection of Pediatric Tongue Base Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) offers a precise, minimally invasive approach for the management of rare pediatric tongue base malignancies. Intraoperative visualization demonstrates accurate tumor delineation and controlled resection, while postoperative findings confirm effective oncologic clearance with preservation of surrounding structures.

Three dimensional conformal postoperative radiotherapy for unilateral parotid gland cancer: A comparison of three different parotid gland irradiation techniques

open access: yes, 2013
IntroductionPostoperative radiotherapy of the parotid gland could be achieved with various radiotherapy techniques. However they irradiate differently the surrounding organs at risk (OARs) in particular the cochlea, oral cavity & contralateral parotid ...
