Tumors of the parotid gland

The American Journal of Surgery, 1967
Abstract The clinicopathologic behavior of 153 primary tumors of the parotid gland is reviewed. Of these 153 tumors, 111 were malignant and forty-two were benign. None of the benign tumors was fatal, and only two of the forty-two patients had a single recurrence.

Plasmacytoma of the parotid gland

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1985
AbstractExtramedullary plasmacytoma of the parotid gland is an extremely rare lesion of which there have been only four other reported cases. The importance of these lesions rests in the possibility of their being a harbinger of multiple myeloma or their subsequent transformation to multiple myeloma. Because of its extreme rarity, the proper management

Lymphoma and the parotid gland

The Laryngoscope, 1982
AbstractThe rich parotid lymphatic network makes necessary the inclusion of benign and malignant lymphoid disease in the differential diagnosis of parotid swelling. This area is affected directly by lymphoma in many clinical situations and has an indirect relationship with lymphoma through Sjögren's syndrome.

Lipoma of the parotid gland

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1985
This case report describes a lipoma that appeared as a parotid gland tumor. The lipoma is an asymptomatic, slow-growing, nontender mass. This lesion is rare at this site and exhibits no unique clinical features. There is no reliable method of establishing a preoperative diagnosis; therefore, the lesion should be included as a rare possibility in the ...

Plasmacytoma of the Parotid Gland

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965

Sialolipoma of the parotid gland

Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 2006
A case of slow-enlarging mass of the parotid region in a 44-year-old male is presented, which proved to be a lipomatous tumour of the parotid gland. The clinical impression was that of a benign salivary gland tumour. The tumour was situated in the deep lobe of the gland, thus a total parotidectomy was performed, with preservation of the facial nerve ...

Tuberculosis of the parotid gland

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1998
AbstractThe presentation of tuberculosis as an isolated parotid lump is rare. In this paper, six cases with tuberculous parotitis are reported which were evaluated as a benign parotid neoplasm in 216 specimens pre-operatively. All but one of them had no previous history of tuberculosis and all had a parotid lump as a sole symptom for at least one year.

Tuberculosis of the parotid gland

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2005
Tuberculosis of the parotid gland is very rare and clinically indistinguishable from a neoplasm. Thus the diagnosis of parotid gland involvement with tuberculosis has traditionally been made after surgical resection. We present a case which was diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology and managed medically.

Malakoplakia of the parotid gland

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1988
Xanthogranulomatous inflammation is an ubiquitous process that is most commonly observed in the kidney but may be observed in other organs. We report a case of xanthogranulomatous inflammation occurring in an enlarged parotid gland of a 65-year-old man as a result of salivary duct obstruction from sialolithiasis.

Sialocysts of the Parotid Glands

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1989
Sialocysts of salivary glands are outnumbered greatly by pseudocystic lesions, exemplified by mucoceles. In the major salivary glands, sialocysts are preponderantly lesions of the parotid glands, where they are classified as 1) salivary duct cysts, 2) lymphoepithelial cysts, or 3) dysgenetic or congenital cysts.
