Sixty-nine patients with parotid gland cancer were studied at the Cancer Control Agency of British Columbia; half were treated successfully. Localized cancers should be treated by total parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation. Facial nerve sacrifice and radical neck dissection for metastatic lymph nodes may be required.

LEIOMYOSARCOMA OF THE PAROTID GLAND

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1983
An unusual case of leiomyosarcoma of the parotid gland is reported. The tumour recurred thrice and metastasized to one of the adjacent lymph nodes. Histologically, a leiomyosarcoma in the salivary gland closely resembles a tumour of myoepithelial cells origin but lacks the dual cell morphology seen in the latter.

Parotid Gland Trauma

Facial Plastic Surgery, 2010
Parotid trauma can lead to both short and long-term complications such as bleeding, infection, facial nerve injury, sialocele, and salivary fistula, resulting in pain and disfigurement.
