We describe three cases of parotid gland lipoma, a relatively rare, asymptomatic, slow growing, freely movable, soft tissue mass. Preoperative clinical diagnosis is generally difficult but MRI using fat saturation techniques provides accurate diagnostic information regarding this benign parotid gland tumor, enabling better treatment planning.

Complication of parotid gland surgery
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1984In a consecutive series of 61 parotid operations only one case of unexpected permanent facial nerve injury was seen although transient disturbances of facial nerve function were more common. Frey's syndrome subsequently developed in 13% of patients although its onset was delayed on average for 22.2 months.
