In this case, the experts come out of the starting blocks disagreeing. One expert (Dr. Myers) does not routinely use FNA, relying instead on clinical signs to suspect a malignancy. the other physicians (Drs. Robbins and Suen) obtain an FNA for each parotid mass and use the information in counseling patients.

We are reporting what we believe to be the second case of bilateral parotid neoplasm occuring synchronously with differing histologies. We believe that this neoplasm may represent a specific propensity of parotid tissue in a given individual to develop neoplasia in a multipotential glandular organ subject to many neoplastic diseases.

Treatment of malignant neoplasms of the parotid gland

In this study we evaluated the effects of surgical and radiotherapy treatment on local control in 126 patients with malignant tumors of the parotid gland. The most frequently observed malignant tumors were high‐grade tumors (68%). Surgical treatment was performed in 81 patients (83.5%).
