Mass Eruption Rates of Tephra Plumes During the 2011–2015 Lava Fountain Paroxysms at Mt. Etna From Doppler Radar Retrievals

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
Real-time estimation of eruptive source parameters during explosive volcanic eruptions is a major challenge in terms of hazard evaluation and risk assessment as these inputs are essential for tephra dispersal models to forecast the impact of ash plumes ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

POLYURIA IN PAROXYSMAL TACHYCARDIA AND PAROXYSMAL ATRIAL FLUTTER AND FIBRILLATION [PDF]

open access: yesHeart, 1963
When Paul Wood spoke about this to the British Cardiac Society in 1961, we were impressed by the originality of his work on a subject that so many had noticed but failed to investigate. A few months before his death in July 1962, when I asked him if his paper was ready for the journal, he said that he had not yet been able to get all the evidence he ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Clinical significance of TNF-a assessment as inflammation marker in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Medicine, 2014
Study goal: to assess levels of TNF-α in blood serum of patients with atrial fibrillation during paroxysm and after the episode. To find possible practical application of measuring TNF-α serum levels as a diagnostic method to detect the onset of paroxysm.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Predictors of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: Analysis of 24-hour ECG Holter monitoring [PDF]

open access: yesНаука и инновации в медицине
main predictors of the development of this arrhythmia. Material and methods.A single-center, cross-control study was conducted. Of all 6630 protocols analyzed, according to 24-hour ECG monitoring, AF paroxysm was detected in 97 people as an accidental

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Prolonged ECG monitoring: indications for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation diagnostics in coronary heart disease patients

open access: yesРоссийский кардиологический журнал, 2006
The authors analyze prolonged ECG monitoring indications for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) diagnostics. Two groups of coronary heart disease (CRT)) patients were examined.
