Prognostic value of high-resolution electrocardiography parameters, heart rate variability, and QT interval dynamics in patients with chronic heart failure

open access: yesКардиоваскулярная терапия и профилактика, 2006
Aim. To study prognostic value of high-resolution electrocardiography (HR-ECG), heart rate variability (HRV), QT interval dispersion and duration parameters, for assessing the risk of chronic heart failure (CHF) decompensation, atrial fibrillation (AF ...

Amiodarone-Induced Hypothyroidism

open access: yesКубанский научный медицинский вестник, 2019
Aim: to present a clinical case of amiodarone-induced hypothyroidism in a patient with paroxysmal atrial fi brillation.Results. Before taking amiodarone, the patient suffered from subclinical hypothyroidism. The level of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

The intense explosive activity of lava fountain sequences from Voragine crater at Etna volcano: new insights through high-precision borehole strain recordings

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Mount Etna is well known for its frequent lava fountains, or paroxysms, characterized by their intense explosive activity. Over the past decades, the Southeast Crater has been the most prolific, generating over a hundred events.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Ablation outcomes and quality of life in patients with atrial flutter and concomitant paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

open access: yesHeart Vessels and Transplantation
Objective: To compare ablation outcomes and quality of life (QoL) of patients with typical atrial flutter (AFL) and concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) paroxysms after cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation alone or combined with pulmonary vein isolation.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
