Pars plana lentectomy was performed in a total of 75 eyes of 63 patients. The main indications were congenital and infantile cataract, traumatic cataract, and complicated cataract associated with uveitis. The surgical technique, the difficulties encountered, and the intraoperative and postoperative complications are described.

Pars plana cysts are occasionally seen when the extreme periphery of the fundus is examined with the Schepens technique 1,2 of indirect ophthalmoscopy and scleral pressure. The cysts in this report were incidental findings in presumably normal eye bank eyes, examined before fixation by indirect ophthalmoscopy and scleral pressure and after fixation by

A PPV is a surgical procedure in which the vitreous gel is removed using ports placed through the pars plana. The port system allows the procedure to be performed in a closed system, opposed to the previous open sky techniques. The advantages of the PPV are decreased operative times, increased patient comfort, decreased conjunctival scarring, decreased

The Significance of the Pars Plana Exudate in Pars Planitis
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1987We divided 61 patients (111 eyes) with pars planitis into three groups based on clinical appearance. Patients in Group I had bilateral vitreous cells and bilateral pars plana exudates (36 patients, 72 eyes); patients in Group II had bilateral vitreous cells but a pars plana exudate in one eye only (14 patients, 28 eyes); and patients in Group III had ...

Pars Plana Vitrectomy and Pars Plana Lensectomy for Retained Lens Fragments
2017While cataract extraction surgery has become increasingly safe and efficient, retained lens material or a “dropped nucleus” continues to be one of the more common complications, typically as a result of posterior capsule compromise or zonular dehiscence.

Pars Plana Vitrectomy in Ocular Trauma
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1979Visual improvement was achieved in 62% of 100 consecutive patients with ocular trauma treated by pars plana vitrectomy. Anterior segment injuries had a better prognosis than posterior segment injuries, and retinal detachment was a poor prognostic sign.

Phacoemulsification Combined With Pars Plana Vitrectomy
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1991ABSTRACT Phacoemulsification combined with pars plana vitrectomy was performed on seven patients with both cataracts and vitreoretinal disease. Six of the seven had a posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC-IOL) placed in the capsular bag following cataract extraction.

Pars Plana Approach for Pupillary Membranes
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1978Pars plana surgery was performed, using a vitreous infusion suction cutter, for the treatment of after-cataracts, traumatic pupillary membranes, inflammatory pupillary membranes, and varoius pupillary membranes combined with other posterior segment problems. Surgical complications were minimal.

Treatment of Endophthalmitis by Pars Plana Vitrectomy
Ophthalmologica, 1988Between 1976 and 1985 81 cases of endophthalmitis have been treated by pars plana vitrectomy and intravitreous injection of antibiotics or antimycotics. The functional results and the etiology of the endophthalmitis are discussed, as well as the reasons to perform a vitrectomy in endophthalmitis, and a possible explanation for the relatively high ...
