WOUND COMPLICATIONS IN PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY

Eighteen eyes with examples of clinically important wound-related complications are reported. These include hemorrhage, fibrous ingrowth, and tractional or mechanical problems. Endophthalmitis after Pars Plana Vitrectomy

In three cases of bacterial endophthalmitis following pars plana vitrectomy the important diagnostic findings included increased orbital pain, decreased visual acuity, and the presence of a hypopyon. Despite agressive antibiotic therapy, all three eyes became blind, and two progressed rapidly to phthisis.

PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY FOR ASTEROID HYALOSIS

Asteroid hyalosis is a common, usually asymptomatic, benign vitreous disease affecting older individuals. A case report of an aphakic patient who developed anterior segment complications with no visualization of the fundus is presented. A pars plana anterior and posterior vitrectomy was performed using the Ocutome system.

Endophthalmitis and pars plana vitrectomy.

A review of all cases of suspected endophthalmitis following cataract extraction seen at one referral hospital between 1979 and 1983 was conducted. Of the 13 cases, 7 were proven by culture to be bacterial endophthalmitis when organisms were grown from aspirates of the aqueous, the vitreous or both.

[Pars plana vitrectomy in uveitis].

A vitrectomy was performed in 30 eyes suffering from different forms of uveitis. An improvement of visual acuity was obtained in 29 cases and was explained by removal of vitreous haze and/or of the cataract, but not by the improvement of the inflammatory process.
