Molecular investigation of the phylogenetic placement of Kartalinia and a revision of Bituminaria (Fabaceae: Psoraleeae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract The genus Kartalinia was described to accommodate a single, obscure species, Psoralea acaulis, based on its unique morphology and karyology. No concerted molecular phylogenetic studies were available for this species at the time, and therefore its phylogenetic position was uncertain.

Between‐species contagion drives HPAI transmission and mass mortality in seabirds

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 8, Page 1488-1503, August 2026.
Modelling the unprecedented avian panzootic caused by High‐Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) across the Northeast Atlantic gannet breeding metapopulation, we estimated 28% (95% CI: 21%–34%) HPAI‐related mortality. Large‐scale outbreak initiation was best explained by external infection sources, most likely, other seabird species.

Demographic responses to population recovery illustrated by 30 years of monitoring a once critically endangered parrot

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
These findings highlight the dynamic nature of demographic processes throughout population recovery and emphasise the value of continued monitoring beyond apparent recovery to detect density‐dependent shifts in demographic rates of wildlife populations.

Finding patterns of distribution for freshwater phytoplankton, zooplankton and fish, by means of parsimony analysis of endemicity Encontrando patrones de distribución para fitoplancton, zooplancton y peces dulceacuícolas por medio de análisis de parsimonia de endemismos

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2008
During the last decades, limnological studies on Chilean systems have contributed to know the species composition and main environmental variables of many water bodies distributed over a wide latitudinal interval, from 18º to 53º S.

Systematics of the Genus Hyalinaria Bethune‐Baker, 1910 (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) With Five New Species

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The Oiketicinae genus Hyalinaria Bethune‐Baker, 1910, is revised. The use of both morphological information and genetic sequence data indicates that Hyalinaria and Pseudoclania Bethune‐Baker, 1915 sp. nov., are synonymous, with the latter genus here treated as a junior subjective synonym of the former.

Revision of the Elusive Harvestmen Genus Discocyrtulus Roewer, 1927 (Opiliones: Laniatores: Gonyleptidae): Investigating the Presumed Northeastern Brazilian Discocyrtus‐Like Relatives

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A maximum parsimony analysis based on morphological characters (23 taxa; 98 characters; 1951 scorings) was conducted to test the monophyly of Discocyrtulus Roewer, 1927, and to assess its phylogenetic relationships within Gonyleptidae. The results recover the species currently assigned to Discocyrtulus as phylogenetically distant from ...

Rethinking areas of endemism and barriers: perspectives for a causal historical biogeography and a critique of Schultz and Cracraft (2024)

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 42, Issue 4, Page 401-412, August 2026.
Abstract Historical biogeography faces a persistent conceptual and methodological dilemma concerning the nature of its central analytical units. Using the recent proposal by Schultz and Cracraft (Cladistics 40, 653) as a catalyst, this article critiques the argument that causal inference necessitates the replacement of areas of endemism with barriers ...
