Observations at ultrastructural level have been added to earlier descriptions of the vascular tissue inParthenium argentatum (guayule). Large transfer cells with pronounced cell wall projections were found in the phloem of the minor veins in the leaves. Induced tetraploid guayule (Parthenium argentatum Gray, a rubber-producing and woody species of section Parthenicaeta) was crossed to P. confertum var. lyratum Gray, a herbaceous species of section Argyrocheta. Hybrids were obtained when guayule was used as female.

L'IRCA a entrepris l'introduction du guayule en Afrique tout en menant en France certaines études sur les semences. Au Sénégal et au Maroc, les essais en cours se montrent très favorables et une expérimentation à plus grande échelle devient nécessaire pour préparer la mise en culture.
