On-line partial discharge detection in transformer

Conference Record of the 1998 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation (Cat. No.98CH36239), 2002
This paper describes an on-line partial discharge (PD) detection technique applicable to distribution transformers. This technique uses a spectrum analyzer with a high-frequency preamplifier and high-frequency current probes. The PD measurements normally are made on each of the primary and secondary windings with a high-frequency current transformer ...

Partial discharge development and detection in dielectric liquids

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2009
PD measurements in dielectric liquids have been normally performed in the past only using conventional narrow bandwidth detectors. The more recent use of ultra-wide bandwidth instruments has permitted to support once again the thesis that the PDs in oils are the consequence of the streamer (vapor phase) formation and its development.

Partial discharge detection in power modules

2002 IEEE 33rd Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37289), 2003
Today, most railway applications use hybrid power modules. These IGBT modules are constituted of several dielectric materials to achieve chip packaging. Due to the presence of high voltage, new phenomena which could be previously ignored for lower voltage ratings have now to be taken into account. This is the case of partial discharges which may appear

On-line partial discharge detection in cables

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1998
This paper describes an on-line PD (partial discharge) detection technique applicable to power cables. The method can be applied to both wire screen and solid shielded cables. In wire screen shielded cables, PD components with frequencies

Verification of the detection of partial discharges by microwaves

Proceedings of 1995 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials, 2002
This paper presents a new method for detecting an occurrence of a partial discharge (PD) due to a material defect in a high-voltage electrical apparatus. This method which is based on the interferometer in the field of astronomy, can detect a source of discharge by using the phase information of electromagnetic waves propagated through space.

Standard evolution of Partial Discharge detection in dielectric liquids

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2017
Partial Discharges (PD) detection in HV components has shown to be a very powerful diagnostic tool. Anyway, also the acquisition of the same signals in simple insulations, like the dielectric liquids, may give additional information for maintenance of HV components in which they are employed, as in the case of liquid insulated transformers.

Digital detection and fuzzy classification of partial discharge signals

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2002
This paper deals with digital acquisition, classification and analysis of the stochastic features of random pulse signals generated by partial discharge (PD) phenomena. Focus is made on a new measuring system for the digital acquisition of PD-pulse signals, which operates at a sampling rate high enough to avoid the frequency aliasing, but that provides

The detection of partial discharges in on-line equipment

1983 EIC 6th Electrical/Electronical Insulation Conference, 1983
Well developed techniques are available for the detection of partial discharges (PD's) in equipment tested in either the laboratory or factory environment. However, because of the need for clean power supplies and an RF shielded environment, most of these techniques are not applicable to on-line equipment.

Applying UHF Partial Discharge Detection to Power Transformers

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002
A new technique for analyzing partial discharge (PD) signals based on ultra-high frequency (UHF) measurements is presented, using results from site tests. Signals from simultaneously active discharge sources can be mapped according to their point of origin in a manner that will simplify the interpretation of phase-resolved discharge patterns.

Partial discharges. Their mechanism, detection and measurement

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2002
Different partial discharge (PD) detection and measurement procedures suitable for use on cables, capacitors, transformers and rotating machines are examined and compared. Both narrow and wide bandwidth PD detectors are considered; particular attention is given in regard to their suitability to different types of electrical apparatus and cable ...
