Partial discharge. XIII. Acoustic partial discharge detection-fundamental considerations

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992
An overview of the basic acoustics theory required to understand the finer points of acoustic partial discharge (PD) detection systems is given. PD and acoustic test methods are discussed, and acoustic wave motion, impedance, and intensity are described. Wave propagation and signal absorption, and the velocity of sound are discussed.

Partial discharge. XIV. Acoustic partial discharge detection-practical application

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992
For pt.XIII see ibid., vol.8, no.4 (July/August 1992). The finer points of acoustic partial discharge (PD) detection systems and their common applications are treated. The PD source, propagation path of the waves, the acoustic sensor, and system noise are described.

Partial discharges. XII. Partial discharge detection in rotating electrical machines

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992
For pt.XI see ibid., vol.8, no.2, p.14 et seq. (1992). Partial discharge (PD) phenomena in the windings of rotating machines are examined. PD measurements on rotating machines, both offline and online, are described. Data acquisition and analysis requirements are briefly considered. >

A contribution in partial discharge detection

IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Sensing, Processing, Networking. IMTC Proceedings, 2002
The proposed system allows the measurement of: 1. Apparent charge by means of direct analog integration of the current induced by the PD event; 2. The corresponding value of the applied voltage "V" 3. The time instant in which the Partial Discharge occurs "t/sub PD/". This particular instrumentation, devoted to the measurement of partial discharges, is

Partial discharge detection using ferrite antenna

Conference Record of the 1992 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2003
Some examples of partial discharge detection by using a loop antenna wound on a ferrite core were demonstrated. The prototype of a partial discharge detector system using a ferrite antenna was demonstrated. It was found that the partial discharge can be detected by measuring the electromagnetic waves irradiated from the discharge event, using the loop ...

Partial discharge detection in power modules

2002 IEEE 33rd Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37289), 2003
Today, most railway applications use hybrid power modules. These IGBT modules are constituted of several dielectric materials to achieve chip packaging. Due to the presence of high voltage, new phenomena which could be previously ignored for lower voltage ratings have now to be taken into account. This is the case of partial discharges which may appear

Partial discharge. II. Detection sensitivity

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1990
For pt.I see ibid., vol.6, no.4, p.33-9 (1990). Options for detecting and characterizing the signal generated by a partial discharge (PD) within a test piece or test configuration are examined. Important parameters considered include minimum detectable signal (PD sensitivity), circuit time constants that limit PD waveform characterization (where this ...

Partial Discharge Detection with Convolutional Neural Networks

2020 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems (PMAPS), 2020
Covered conductors are widely adopted in the medium to low voltage systems to prevent faults and ignitions from events such vegetation contacting with distribution lines and conductors slapping together. However, such events could cause partial discharge in deteriorated insulation system of covered conductors and ultimately lead to failure and ignition.

On-line partial discharge detection in cables

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1998
This paper describes an on-line PD (partial discharge) detection technique applicable to power cables. The method can be applied to both wire screen and solid shielded cables. In wire screen shielded cables, PD components with frequencies

On-line partial discharge detection in transformer

Conference Record of the 1998 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation (Cat. No.98CH36239), 2002
This paper describes an on-line partial discharge (PD) detection technique applicable to distribution transformers. This technique uses a spectrum analyzer with a high-frequency preamplifier and high-frequency current probes. The PD measurements normally are made on each of the primary and secondary windings with a high-frequency current transformer ...
