Computer — Aided partial discharge measurements
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena — Annual Report 1987, 1987An instrument is described which makes computer assisted measurements for the identification of the source and nature of partial discharges which may occur in an insulation system. The instrument accepts pulse count, phase, and voltage magnitude information from a commercially available partial discharge detector of the resonant-coupled type.

Experience with UHF partial discharge measurements
Proceedings of 2002 IEEE 14th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids. ICDL 2002 (Cat. No.02CH37319), 2003Some tests on UHF measuring techniques on transformers and oil-paper insulation models have been reported in literature. The results indicate the feasibility of this method for oil-paper insulation, but are not conclusive. To have a good perspective of this method, UHF partial discharge (PD) measurements were conducted on small oil-paper insulation ...

Partial discharge (PD) measuring techniques
15th IET International School on High Voltage Engineering and Testing 2008, 2008The physical background of partial discharges will be explained on simple models. The requirements on the complete partial discharge measuring systems including the calibration and evaluation of the measuring results will be discussed and examples of partial discharge measurements on transformers in the laboratory and on site will be presented. Finally

Partial discharge measurements -- frequency related considerations
CEIDP '05. 2005 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2005., 2005Partial discharge (PD) test circuits have been developed for various test series in different gases in the 13.3 Pa to 101.3 kPa pressure range with a needle-plane electrode arrangement. (The purpose of the test series is to establish results in terms of PD inception voltage, waveforms and rise times.) The paper describes features of the initial and ...

Partial discharge measuring technique
2001The partial discharge measurement is a typical non-destructive test and it can be used to judge the insulation performance at the beginning of its service time taking into account the reduction of the performance during the service time by the ageing whereby the ageing depends on numerous parameters like electrical stress, thermal stress and mechanical

Basics of Partial Discharge Measurement
2019Partial discharge (PD) denotes a small, localized electrical discharge in the insulation between conductors, occurring when the local electric field strength exceeds a critical value. Prolonged exposure to partial discharges is known to degrade the dielectric behavior of the insulation and may even lead to complete breakdown. PD testing of high-voltage

Partial discharge measurements: possibilities and limitations
[1992] Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Solid Dielectrics, 2003Several aspects of partial discharge (PD) measurement and processing of PD data are discussed. It is pointed out that the ABC equivalent is not a fully valid equivalent of a void in the insulation and should be used with some care. The use of broadband measuring systems gives a gain in sensitivity, but calibration can be a problem when they are used on

Advances in Measuring Partial Discharge in Insulating Liquids
2019 IEEE 20th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL), 2019The IEC 61294 Technical Report, published in 1993, describes a simple test procedure to measure the PD Inception Voltage (PDIV) in insulating liquids and doesn’t cover any other items related to the PD patterns and their evolution at higher voltages. This simplified approach should be considered superseded when taking into account the several studies ...

Partial-discharge measurements for insulation quality
Power Engineering Journal, 1992There is one common factor that, in different forms, runs throughout the entire electrical and electronics industries. That factor is the requirement for insulation that gives the necessary mechanical, thermal and electrical properties needed for particular applications.

Equipment for the Energy Measurement of Partial Discharges
IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1983The energy dissipated by partial discharges (PD) can be estimated from the U i Q i . It has been described a particular device able to deal with such a calculation using a correlator unit. With gas chromatography analysis a satisfactory correlation was available between the degradation products of liquid (oil) or solid (pressboard) insulation and the ...
