This chapter is devoted to the measurement of partial discharges (PD) localized in weak spots of dielectrics if subjected to high test voltages. As standards for PD measurement s have been introduced only for quality assurance tests of HV apparatus energized by power frequency AC voltages (50/60 Hz), the following treatment refers mainly to this test ...

Electric conduction breakdown and partial discharges in dielectric fluids. I. Partial discharges
[1991] Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2002Some studies have suggested that there may exist a relationship between conduction and electrical breakdown. Before such a correlation between these phenomena and partial discharges (PDs) can be investigated, it is necessary to produce reproducible PD data.

Equipment for the Energy Measurement of Partial Discharges
IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1983The energy dissipated by partial discharges (PD) can be estimated from the U i Q i . It has been described a particular device able to deal with such a calculation using a correlator unit. With gas chromatography analysis a satisfactory correlation was available between the degradation products of liquid (oil) or solid (pressboard) insulation and the ...

Detection of Partial Discharges at High Frequencies
Proceedings of the 41st International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2006This paper details a partial discharge measurement detection model that has been used to produce a test circuit suitable for detection of partial discharge at high frequencies. The circuit is designed to identify partial discharges in different insulating samples stressed by non-standard (including high frequency sine-waves and square waves).

Partial discharges and their measurement
2004The study of partial discharges is not an academic pursuit. It is driven by a very practical desire, a desire to understand a phenomenon which can be utilised to infer the level of integrity within the insulation systems of high voltage plant and which, in itself, constitutes a serious stress degradation mechanism. The role of partial discharge studies

Partial discharge XX. Partial discharges in air. II. Selection of line conductors
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1995Corona from overhead transmission lines causes radio interference, television interference, audible noise, and power loss. Overhead lines are designed to limit such corona-induced effects, which are a strong function of weather conditions. >
