The partial discharge (PD) measurement is a very well known possibility to assess the quality of an insulation system. The aim of the PD-diagnostic is the detection of destruction of electrical insulation as a result of electrical stress especially of PD during operation.

Partial Discharge Pattern Detected by New Design Partial Discharge Sensors
2019 2nd International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Power Systems (ICHVEPS), 2019This research discusses the design and testing of the bowtie antenna as a partial discharge sensor (PD). In this design, there are three types of bowtie antennas which are simulated with high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software with various shapes and sizes, namely double layer bowtie antenna with edge modification, doube layer bowtie antenna

Partial discharge. XIII. Acoustic partial discharge detection-fundamental considerations
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992An overview of the basic acoustics theory required to understand the finer points of acoustic partial discharge (PD) detection systems is given. PD and acoustic test methods are discussed, and acoustic wave motion, impedance, and intensity are described. Wave propagation and signal absorption, and the velocity of sound are discussed.

Partial discharge. XIV. Acoustic partial discharge detection-practical application
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992For pt.XIII see ibid., vol.8, no.4 (July/August 1992). The finer points of acoustic partial discharge (PD) detection systems and their common applications are treated. The PD source, propagation path of the waves, the acoustic sensor, and system noise are described.

Defect Identification through Partial Discharge Analysis on HVDC: Partial Discharge Fingerprinting
2021The electricity grid spanning hundreds of thousands of kms is one of the most complex man-made network built in human history. Today, after a century of growth, progress and innovation, the electricity grid is in the process of undergoing another landmark shift in its operation.

This chapter is devoted to the measurement of partial discharges (PD) localized in weak spots of dielectrics if subjected to high test voltages. As standards for PD measurement s have been introduced only for quality assurance tests of HV apparatus energized by power frequency AC voltages (50/60 Hz), the following treatment refers mainly to this test ...
