Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Parameter Identification and Effect of Partial Shading on a Photovoltaic System

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
Partial shading cause significant losses to the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) system. So, it is imperative to study effects of partial shading; for that a two-diode model of the experimental setup made. Upon verifying the model with the experimental

Partial Identification of Probability Distributions with Misclassified Data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper addresses the problem of data errors in discrete variables. When data errors occur, the observed variable is a misclassified version of the variable of interest, whose distribution is not identified.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Research on a Partial Discharge Expert System for the Diagnosis of Damaged Transformation Equipment

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Partial discharge (PD) characteristics are very important for the diagnosis of damaged transformation equipment. If the power transmission and transformation equipment fails, it will cause large economic losses, and thus prevention is better than ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Identification of Unconditional Partial Effects in Non Separable Models. [PDF]

open access: yes
This note demonstrates identification of Unconditional Partial Effects introduced by Firpo, Fortin, and Lemieux (2009) in nonseparable triangular models with endogenous regressors via a control variable approach, as employed by Imbens and Newey (2009).

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Spatio-temporal generalised frequency response functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The concept of generalised frequency response functions (GFRFs), which were developed for nonlinear system identification and analysis, is extended to continuous spatio-temporal dynamical systems normally described by partial differential equations (PDEs)
